Meet the Teacher Information: August 7th
Dear Liscano Parents:
We are excited that the start of school is right around the corner, and we know you and your child(ren) are anxious to learn who their teacher will be this year. You should expect an email from your child’s teacher on August 7th between the hours of 12:00 and 3:00pm. The teacher will remind you about bringing supplies on Meet the Teacher Night! We look forward to greeting you and your child at that time. If the email is not received within the time period noted, you may contact the school office, or the information will be available when you arrive for the Meet the Teacher Night. If changes have been made to your email address since completing the online enrollment process, please contact the campus data clerk to update.
Meet the Teacher Night is scheduled for August 7th, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. This time will be to meet the teacher, drop off your supplies or unpack pre-purchased supplies, sign up for after-school programs, join PTA and buy spirit wear.

Principal's Message
Hello Liscano Community,
As we set course for the upcoming school year at Liscano, I wanted to take a moment to share how excited we are to welcome all of our Liscano students back to school!
As we prepare for the start of the school year, I wanted to outline some ways that you can help to prepare your student to be a leader when he or she returns to school.
***Please make sure your children know what color & kind of car you have for carpool pickup.***
· Limit Screen Time: Limit all types of screen time and encourage your child to play outside, play board games, play with friends/siblings creatively, and read a book.
· Pack the Snacks: Pack snacks with your child. Let him/her take an active role in selecting and packing a healthy snack and/or lunch. We highly recommend that students bring water for snacks to help maintain our new carpets.
· Role Playing Lunch: Practice eating your school lunch at home. When in school, your student will have less time than at home to eat his/her lunch. It is helpful to have your student, especially kindergartners, practice opening and eating snacks prior to coming to school. This helps to foster independence for them.
· Point out the Positives: The 1st week of school provides an opportunity for your child to renew old friendships and begin new ones for the upcoming year.
· Reassure your child
· Prepare Ahead of Time: Take the time the night before to select the clothes that he/she is planning on wearing the next day at school.
· Getting into Routine: Encourage your children to get to bed early and wake up 15-30 minutes earlier in the morning to avoid having to rush and to allow time for a healthy breakfast.
· Plan for Special Needs: If your student requires medication, please work with our school office staff to make sure all necessary requirements are on file for the 1st day of school.
In an effort to maintain regular communication, please check your email every Friday for our school newsletter!
For the first day of school on Wednesday, August 9th:
● School begins at 7:45 am and ends at 3:05 pm. Doors open at 7:20 am daily.
● For the first day only, K-5 parents will be able to walk their child(ren) to their classrooms...again this is for the first day ONLY
● Normal drop off will begin Friday, August 11th
○ Drop off locations and maps are in the attached arrival/dismissal link below.**
Looking forward to a special school year, filled with stretching our learning together,
Mrs. Smith

Safety & Security
Information regarding HB3 from FISD- Safety and Security
Frisco ISD regularly confers with law enforcement partners to ensure we provide the safest possible environment for our students and staff. While the legislature did not provide sufficient funding to cover the cost of existing school safety measures, let alone additional measures, Frisco ISD will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to determine the most effective way to allocate and dispatch resources to keep our students and staff safe. Frisco ISD expects guidance from TEA regarding the implementation of HB 3’s requirements to be provided in early August.
Frisco ISD partners with police departments in Frisco, Plano, McKinney, and Little Elm to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) across the district. SROs are assigned to all middle and high schools, the Career and Technical Education Center, and the Student Opportunity Center. School Resource Officers are also assigned to cover all elementary schools. Middle school SROs cover some elementary campuses, while SRO rovers cover others.

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures and Routines
Parents -
GET READY and please be patient with us for the first couple of weeks of carpool craziness!
Liscano Families,
Happy New School Year! We are so excited to start this year with smiles and safety! As we prepare for the return of students next week, please take some time to review our UPDATED arrival and dismissal procedures.
It is our job and collective responsibility to protect our students, staff and families each day! Please review the Liscano Arrival and Dismissal Map (click link) to see where your child goes in the morning and where you child will be after school. Please note a change for the 23-24 school year: The front circle drive is only for daycare buses. Front drive passes will not be used this year, unless it is from the 2023 Spring Carnival. All other carpool students will drop off in the back carpool lane. This includes any before school programs. There will be plenty of staff to support the safe transition of all students into the school building.
While we understand that the lines can be long in the first few weeks, thank you for exercising patience and please remember that our top priority is student safety. Thank you for reading through our procedures & routines thoroughly, as we want to ensure our children arrive & leave school safely.
FIRST Day of School Arrival
Kindergarten to 5th grade parents can walk their children to class on the first day of school. On the 1st day ONLY, parents will NOT be required to check in at the front desk. However, please do a quick drop off and exit the building as quickly as possible.
Kinder parents, ONLY, may come in on the second day as well. Starting on Friday August 11th, NO PARENTS will be allowed to walk their child into the building. While providing this option, parents are still encouraged to drop their children off in the normal arrival areas. However, we realize that this transition is hard for several of our kiddos, which is why we are allowing this for Kindergarten students on the second day of school.
Reminders about Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Bikers, walkers and daycare students will enter through the front doors of the building.
Carpool pick-up will occur in the specific locations in the carpool lane, as noted on the map below.
Please note a change for the 23-24 school year: The front circle drive is only for daycare buses. Front drive passes will not be used this year, unless it is from the 2023 Spring Carnival. All other carpool students will drop off in the carpool lane. This includes any before school programs. There will be plenty of staff to support the safe transition of all students into the school building.
Please note the entrance and exit on the map.
The carpool lane is 1-way traffic ONLY.
Please do NOT speed in the carpool lane. We want to ensure everyone is safe when dropping off and picking up their children.
Please also note the purpose of each lane, as color coded with the key.
You should have your student's name in the dash of your car or hanging from the rearview mirror.
Your child’s teacher or a Liscano staff member will bring your child to your car and will be put in the back seat only.
Please make sure your child can access the backseat from the school side door.
Parents are to remain in their cars at all times, for your safety and to support the traffic flow of our carpool lanes.
Older siblings will walk from their grade level down to their youngest siblings grade level for carpool pickup. ***
Breakfast Update
Breakfast will be served on trays and students will eat in the cafeteria before going to class. If your child will be getting breakfast from the cafe, please try to drop them off at school as close to 7:20 as possible, as the school day begins promptly at 7:45 am in their classrooms. This will give them plenty of time to eat and walk down to class on time.
Thank you for reviewing our arrival and dismissal map and procedures, to support a safe drop off and pick up for our Liscano students, staff and families. We appreciate your support and partnership with student safety!
We are truly looking forward to a smooth start to the 2023-24 school year!

School Cafeteria Returns to Paid Meals
Meals are no longer free for all students, beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. The federal waiver that allowed schools nationwide to offer free meals to all students regardless of income has expired. Please review the BACK TO PAID MEALS flyer for more information on meal prices.
Breakfast will be $2 and lunch will be $2.75. Families with low household income are encouraged to apply for meal benefits. Visit www.schoolcafe.com/FriscoISD or download the app to:
Create a café account
View menus
Make payments
Apply for free & reduced meals
Set purchase restrictions
Frisco ISD urges families who may qualify for meal benefits due to low family income to submit an application. In addition to free school meals, there are a number of additional benefits, detailed below, that students can receive when a family qualifies and shares their eligibility status. Applications may be completed electronically at www.schoolcafe.com/friscoisd, printed directly from the Frisco ISD website. Please submit only one form per household.
Parents do have to complete applications for each new school year, which you can do now.
Lunch with your child/children will be closed to start the year; however, we will communicate the date that we will open for lunchtime visitors. Thank you for allowing time for our teachers to build positive relationships and establish clear expectations for all students in the cafe.
Sign up for Emergency Alerts
Frisco ISD utilizes the School Messenger text messaging service on a limited basis to communicate timely information such as school closures/delays or campus emergencies. Not sure if you are signed up? Opt in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. This system is maintained separately from Remind, which many teachers and coaches use to text message students and parents.
Reporting an Absence
All absences, both excused and unexcused, count toward the state’s compulsory attendance law. When a student's attendance drops below 90 percent but remains at least at 75 percent of the days the class is offered, the student may earn credit for the class or a final grade by completing a plan approved by the principal. All absences can easily be submitted in the form at the top of our campus website. Learn more about the attendance policy.

It was once said, “If you want to go quickly, go alone, but if you want to go far, you must go together.” At Liscano, we value the wisdom behind this quote. Our job is to work together as a community to make sure that we have the environment that is best for our students to develop into our leaders of tomorrow.
We are looking forward to greeting all the students and seeing everyone in school every day as we prepare them to be good citizens while reinforcing the character traits that you value at home. We will see you all on August 9th!
Looking Forward,
