February at Country Elementary
Dear Country Elementary Families,
It has been a chilly few weeks with several starts and stops due to unexpected cold days. We will continue to take children outside or to the gym to keep them moving, so please remember to label winter wear and check out the lost and found if anything has gone missing.
This time of year can be challenging for both children and adults. The cold weather, short days, and lack of sunshine can leave many of us feeling a bit “blah.” This definitely applies to me. In conjunction with Jump Rope for Heart, I’m sharing this link to fun, free indoor activities from the American Heart Association: Kick Cabin Fever. Keeping kids active helps them sleep better, focus better, and feel better both at home and at school.
WINN Time Update
This past week, our teachers analyzed student data and made adjustments to WINN (What I Need Now) Time groups to best meet the needs of all our students. We believe that gathering data is just the first step—using it effectively to support student growth is our priority. If you have any questions about your child’s progress or our curriculum, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.
Literacy Curriculum
There has been a lot of discussion in the news about reading scores across the U.S. At Country Elementary, we have been proactive in strengthening literacy instruction. In the years before and during COVID, our teachers trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to phonics instruction, and we recently implemented the Bookworms ELA Curriculum. Kathleen Krill

Absence Reporting Procedures & Resources
How to Report an Absence
When a student is to be absent, a parent/guardian must notify the school by calling the Attendance Hotline at 810.225.6610 or emailing CE-attendance@pinckneypirates.org
Attendance Hotlines are available 24 hours a day seven (7) days a week for your convenience.
Any absence not excused within 48 hours will be coded as an unexcused absence.
Livingston County Resources and Support for Families
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has partnered with our schools and has a Pathways to Potential Success Coach in most of our buildings who can help connect you to community resources such as food, transportation, clothing, Day Care, Medicaid/other health coverage, shut off notices, evictions, mental health and more. No need to travel to the Howell DHHS office - we can help you right here. All information will be kept in strictest confidence to protect your privacy. It is important to us to assist you in accessing any resources you may need in a convenient manner.
Please feel free to reach out to any of us if the need arises or you have any questions. We look forward to partnering with you this year.

Child Find
Each school building in the Pinckney Community School District has a Child Study Team/Response to Intervention process in place, which is a vehicle for staff members to review student performance, concerns, and collaboratively develop interventions. If you have concerns about your child’s development and are interested in more information on special services, contact his/her building Principal.
