Newsletter Week Eight Term Two
19 June 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Well, what a Saturday afternoon! The Chiefs stunned the Hurricanes in the first seven minutes of the game, and the Hurricanes never recovered. It was an excellent game to watch, though. Roll on next week. I hope they get a good crowd at Eden Park for the final. Friday was fun at school, and I enjoyed the banter from the children. There was plenty more Monday! I graciously hoisted the flag on Monday morning.
Thanks to Ray Guildford for running a great regional chess tournament last Monday, and to everyone who helped with baking and the sausage sizzle. Many children around Rotorua and Putaruru came to play, which was fantastic. Our team secured second place.
Thanks also to Ray for taking some of our students to Fluro Golf. The children enjoyed their day despite the weather being a little unpredictable.
It’s always great to see our former students performing well on the world stage. Lachlan Stevens-McNab has been at the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup. His recent placings include 3rd in the event in Austria, qualifying him 10th for Val di Sole in Italy and placing 32nd in that event despite mechanical issues. Well done, Lachie!
Next Week, we will be holding our 11th Annual Matariki Cultural Dinner. All families are invited to attend with the night beginning at 5.30 pm. This event is great for getting to know other families and celebrating Matariki along with our many cultures. Please bring a plate of food to share.
Enjoy your week.
David Macmillan,
Principal.
Director of Religious Studies
A Matariki Liturgy will be taking place on Thursday 27th June at 12:15pm in the hall. Please feel free to join us.
On Sunday Mrs Mines and I worked with our children and their families who will be receiving Baptism on July 1st. Our students will be made members of God’s family and receive the Holy Spirit's gifts. Pope Francis reminds us, “No one can be a believer alone.” We are given our faith traditions from others who have travelled before us, and we pass on our faith to those just starting their journey. Baptism for these children is only the beginning. Knowing and loving God as a Catholic is a path they will continue throughout their lives.
We will have a Whole School Mass on Friday 5th July to farewell Fr. Thomas. It has been wonderful having Fr. Thomas as our Parish Priest over the last few years. Our children and staff have such affection for Fr. Thomas and we will miss him dearly.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
God bless
Lorna Dobson
