Home Stretch
Dear Seymour Smith Community:
This last stretch of the school year will fly by! We are very much focused on preparing our students for the next grade level before they head off for the summer. We have our Spring Assessments which will also measure our progress from this year. There is so much going on and so much fun & excitement in the last part of the school year as we prepare to welcome the 2nd graders, graduate our 5th graders to middle school, have concerts, field trips, celebrations, field day, and of course, EXPO!
Our Awards Ceremony is a time to recognize our students and their accomplishments throughout the school year. The grade level award ceremonies are by invitation, and will take place as follows:
2nd grade - 8:30 June 20th, in the gym
3rd Grade – 8:30 June 21st in the gym
4th Grade – 8:30 June 24th in the gym
5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony – 10:00 June 25th on the lawn
Please look for further information coming home in the following weeks as we finalize the details for all of our end of the year events.

It's Teacher Appreciation Time! Sending a Thank You to our dedicated, and hard working faculty and staff! Should you wish to get involved, please contact the PTA or Ms. Roberts. We’d also like to recognize Mrs. Lounsbury, who we celebrated at the end of last month during Secretary's Appreciation Day, and Nurse Funk who we will honor this week for Nurse’s Appreciation Day. Thank you to all of you, for all you do for our students!
Here’s the schedule for our Cruise themed appreciation week, if the students want to dress in their vacation attire all week:
Monday – Cruise Director Breakfast – faculty & staff will be treated to breakfast in the staff lounge
Tuesday – Excursion Snack – faculty & staff will be treated to grab and go snacks
Wednesday – Surrounded by Water - faculty and staff can refresh with a water bar
Thursday – LIDO Deck Life- faculty & staff will be treated to lunch courtesy of the PTA
Friday – Faculty & Staff Sail Away treat from Ms. Roberts

PTA News
Thank you to the PTA and their generosity in sponsoring our Teacher Appreciation Luncheon this week. To get involved in activities like this, feel free to attend the next PTA meeting, Thursday 5/8.
Spring Concert
The Seymour Smith ILC Bands & Chorus presents their Spring Concert, Thursday, May, 16, 2024 at 6:30 at Stissing Mountain Jr/Sr High. Many thanks to Mrs. Newsome, Mrs. Pollizatto, Mr. Sisco, and the students for all of their hard work and dedication! Looking forward to seeing you there!
Dress for Success
As the weather warms, kids are the first ones in the neighborhood to break out their shorts and tank tops. Please remember that some clothing is inappropriate for school. Please do not allow your student to come to school in clothing they need to constantly adjust, or would not be comfortable in. Flip flops present a safety concern not only in PE but also up and down our stairs.
Additionally, with our temporary caterpillar visitors, students may wish to put a light layer on over top of their clothes, or pull up their socks for added protection. We are offering the North Field, and an indoor option as well in the meantime.
Field Day
Coach Weber and the Faculty & Staff of SSILC are busy making preparations for our Annual Field Day which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18th. If you are interested in volunteering to help with set-up, clean up, prepping stations, and running stations, please contact Coach Weber at x3122 or j.weber@ppcsd.org
Come Join us for a Great Day!
EXPO
The Annual SSILC EXPO is scheduled for Friday, June 7th. Please look for further information coming home this month regarding our BBQ lunch, classroom displays & performances, among many other exciting activities showcasing the educational endeavors we have conquered this school year. Looking forward to seeing you there!
School Notes
A friendly reminder for parents and guardians that as the busy end of the year events start to bubble up, it is important to provide written notes for your children for absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals. Please remember the best way to communicate is by sending a written note with your child. That way, the teacher sees it, the office sees it, and the greeter receives it. We of course understand that life gets busy and it's easier to send emails and text messages. If that's your only option, please remember to copy the teacher, the office, and the greeter. There are cases where faculty and staff are out, and the email/text may go unchecked if only sent to a single person. Thanks for the help in keeping open communication through the business of the end of the year!
