Black History Month Talent Show Preparation
Our students and staff members are so excited to invite you to the Black History Month Talent Show on Friday, February 28th, 1:30-2:30pm. Each grade level will have the opportunity to perform in front of their peers and family members. This week we were busy preparing for the performances to make sure they were audience-ready. Please come and cheer on our students as we honor the past with performances from the present. All performances will include an introduction about a figure, movement, or historical moment from our black history that inspired their performance. Our goal is to use this performance as a way to honor all that was sacrificed throughout black history to ensure the thriving of black culture today and through tomorrow. Please join us in the gym on Friday!
1st Grade
The combined classes of Ms. Versen and Ms. Shea will be performing a dance and song to the tune of "Old Town Road."
5th Grade
Ms. Williams' class has several performances, including a dance and a whole-class African drumming performance
5th grade
"Queen" indeed! Jakyrah's shirt says it all. This performance is fit for royalty!
3rd/4th Grade
Ms. Ivory's students have a skit with a chronological tribute to influential black figures throughout our history.
3rd/4th Grade
The whole class will also be singing the National Black Anthem.
Ms. Williams
Will Ms. Williams make a special guest appearance to rap her encouragement to her students?? This practice session included an incredible performance by Ms. Williams that I only hope she will include on Friday's performance!
3rd Grade
Ms. Jackson joined in the dance from Goddess and Beautiful to make it a multigenerational celebration.
3rd Grade
Ms. Jackson's girls will also be performing another small group number that is sure to impress!
3rd/4th Grade
The narration from Ms. Ivory's students will inspire all of us to appreciate the incredible achievements that Black History Month is all about.
Seen Around the Building
This week we weren't just practicing for our performances, we were also deep into the February learning process. This is an important month for academic growth. It is incredible to think that we have already been in school for seven weeks since winter break! Our students came back with an energy for learning that inspired all of us, and we have been deep in the process of personal and academic growth ever since. Take a look at a few snapshots of learning that we ran into this week at Patrick Henry.
Taylor's Independent Reading
Taylor read this book aloud to Dr. Rogers with such a pride that it inspired her to stay longer and listen to more stories.
Kindergarten Reading
Kindergarteners reading independently is one of the most exciting things to see. I highly encourage visitors and staff to stop by and see what's cooking in these young classrooms!
Imaginative Play
With the support of our related services team, our students receive one on one and tailored instruction to help develop all skills while truly enjoying themselves!
Star Wars Periodic Table
Isaac could explain his shirt both from a cultural standpoint (every Star Wars character had a special place), and from a scientific standpoint!
Specialized Reading Instruction
Ms. Evans' small groups get individualized reading instruction tailored to their exact reading level and consistently show growth each month!
Student-Teacher Relationships
Ms. Jackson and Tyme shared a special moment that depicts the positive relationship that third graders enjoy with their classroom teacher every day.
What's going on in the garden?
If you walk outside to our school garden, it looks like there's not much going on...empty garden beds, dark and blank soil, and no life growing just yet. But did you know? Ms. Patti has the garden growing inside already! Plants are growing under the warming lights by her classroom. Make sure you stop by to see the magic before they even make it to the garden beds!
