A Note from Kara🌳
A recent theme that seems to resonate with many is the tendency that the human brain has to make situations, thoughts, emotions, etc more complicated than they really are. Our brains are wired to analyze, understand, and make sense out of uncertainty, but often this results in catastrophizing and complex stories that evoke complex emotions. Not that some situations don't warrant an emotional response, but we sometimes lose sight of the real issue, the primary emotion, the original stressor. Sometimes I encourage my patients to lean into the big emotions, but other times when I hear irrational thoughts, I guide them to step back and simplify their view. This is not meant to minimize by any means, but to shift perspective and avoid getting stuck in assumptions and judgment.
Shifting is necessary in so many parts of life.

In the Community
Volunteers are needed for The Nurture Program at JFS Rochester!
We are looking for folks who:
● Understand the joys and challenges related to parenting an infant and/or growing a family
● Are comfortable visiting with families in their homes
● Can commit to supporting a family for up to 6 months
● Want to assure that parents are Nurtured so that they can in turn care for their families
The Nurture Program Coordinator will be offering two information sessions via zoom in November for anyone who might be interested in this meaningful volunteer opportunity. During these sessions, a brief overview of the program and the volunteer role will be provided. Current Nurture Volunteers will be available to help answer any questions about the role and families who have participated in the program will be present to share their experience.
