Dutch Fork High School Graduation
Lexington-Richland School District Five will hold in-person, outdoor graduation ceremonies in early June, implementing social distancing and other health measures for graduates and their guests.
Ceremonies for Chapin High School, Dutch Fork High School, Irmo High School and Spring Hill High School will be held at the district’s three high school football stadiums during the first week of June. The decision to have in-person commencement ceremonies came after the district surveyed seniors and their parents to gain input on honoring the Class of 2020 while maintaining federal and state social distancing guidelines.
Graduates will be allowed four guests, and ceremonies will be live streamed and recorded. Ceremonies in School District Five will follow the originally planned order but have new dates/times:
- Spring Hill High: 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at Chapin High School Stadium
- Weather make-up time for SHHS is 7:30 p.m. on June 2
- Chapin High: 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3 at Chapin High School Stadium
- Weather make-up time for CHS is 7:30 p.m. on June 3
- Dutch Fork High: 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 4 at Dutch Fork High School Stadium
- Weather make-up time for DFHS is 7:30 p.m. on June 4
- Irmo High: 9 a.m. on Friday, June 5 at Irmo High School Stadium
- Weather make-up time for IHS is 7:30 p.m. on June 5
“We sought feedback from student leaders at our high schools, used survey results from our seniors and their parents, and also included principals and other school staff to create an event that keeps safety at the forefront, while celebrating 2020 graduates,” said Dr. Christina Melton, superintendent of School District Five. “Graduation is a major milestone for our students and our parents, and we are committed to making these ceremonies safe, celebratory events that honor all the steps our students have taken to get to this point in their lives.”
Arrival time for students, parking guidelines, information about masks and other health requirements, and other details about graduation ceremonies will be shared with seniors and their families before graduations. Metal detectors will be used, law enforcement and safety officials will be present, and the district’s clear bag requirement will be enforced. Other weather make-up dates for graduation could be announced, if needed.

**Information for 504/IEP students with extended time accommodations for AP exams
Dear Colleague,
We're writing to provide additional details about how extended time will be applied on this year's AP® Exams. Extended time is applied only on the AP Exams that correspond to the type of extended time a student is approved for. See below.
Because the exam is shorter and the system students will use is new, all students approved for extended time will receive online AP Exams enabled with 100% extended time. This will automatically appear on the timer within the exam(s) for all students approved for extended time.
• For one-question exams, students will receive 100 minutes to craft, attach/paste, and submit their response.
•For two-question exams, students will receive 60 minutes to craft, attach/paste, and submit their response to the first question, and then 40 minutes to craft, attach/paste, and submit their response to the second question.
Please be aware of the following:
•Students don't need to use the full time provided to write their responses, and they can submit their responses whenever they're ready to do so during the exam. Spending more time than necessary on a response is unlikely to provide any score benefits.
•For exams with two questions, the second question won't appear until the 60 minutes for the first question has elapsed. Students shouldn't refresh their browser—they should simply wait until the timer runs out and the next question appears.
•The extended time includes 10 minutes to attach/paste the response and click Submit. However, students will only receive an onscreen reminder to submit their response when there are 5 minutes remaining. Therefore, if a student thinks they'll need more than 5 minutes to attach/paste and submit their response, they shouldn't wait for the onscreen reminder to start the submission process.
•Exception: If a student is approved for extended time in listening or speaking and is taking a spoken AP world language and culture exam, they'll receive the approved amount of extended time—50% or 100%—to prepare their responses for each task, as follows:
◦French, German, Italian, and Spanish Language and Culture—For 50% extended time: For Task 1 students have 3 minutes total to prepare for the conversation, and for Task 2 they have 13 minutes total to prepare for the presentation. For 100% extended time: For Task 1 students have 5 minutes total to prepare for the conversation, and for Task 2 they have 22 minutes total to prepare for the presentation.
◦Chinese and Japanese Language and Culture—For 50% extended time: For Task 1 students have 3 minutes total to prepare for the conversation, and for Task 2 they have 10 minutes total to prepare for the presentation. For 100% extended time: For Task 1 students have 4 minutes total to prepare for the conversation, and for Task 2 they have 16 minutes total to prepare for the presentation.
Note: Any students approved this week for an accommodation that requires extended time will receive an email from Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) informing them that they need to test during the June makeup testing window and that they shouldn't use their May e-ticket.
The chart below shows which types of extended time apply to which exam subjects.
Type of Extended TimeApplicable Exams

Attendance Make Up
In light of students not attending school physically because of the Covid -19 virus, there will be flexibility in regards to make up days. As long as students are passing their classes, request, and complete make up work from their teachers, absences will not prevent students from obtaining credit. Students should not stop working to earn a passing grade in a class because they have missed too many days. As it stands now, as long as students pass the class, request, and complete make up work, they will receive credit for the course.
