Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families- What a week! There are many things to be excited about and grateful for here at Ridgeline High. Let me share some of my experiences and thoughts from the week with you…
Our amazing cast and crew of The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens, finally got to work their magic on the stage opening night Wednesday(pictured here with star performers- Merrick, Quinn, and Ethan). The murder-mystery more than lived up to the hype! The experience of a play or musical always leaves with a new impression of the performers. In most cases, I know who they are or at least recognize them. But, also, in most cases I don’t really know them very well. They are so good at what they do, that I left the show thinking that the personalities they had on display must actually be very much like their personalities in ‘real life’. Of course this isn’t true, but there are some similarities. For example, I’m guessing Ty Hudson, the lead, actually does have a quick-witted sense of humor! Just a little sneak peek—the audience during this show has an opportunity to be involved. That’s right, any member of the audience, and I saw very young kids and adults both engage with the cast in real-time. It was very cool! Tickets are still available tonight and Saturday night- so please come and support Ridgeline Theater.
One night later, on Thursday, I happened to be around when the business club was having a Friends-Giving dinner together. They were gracious enough to invite me to the feast and it was wonderful! So much better than my cold left-overs I would have had. Same night, the theater had another show and we hosted the District 6 volleyball championship. In case you haven’t heard---Ridgeline girls volleyball are the CHAMPIONS! They won a very competitive and thrilling match over Mt. Spokane. The girls will head to state in Yakima next weekend as a top seed and look to make a historic run! And keep an eye out on SWX for senior, Reagan Rothley, who will be a featured Student-Athlete of the week! At some point during the match I stepped out and watched as theater-goers were entering the theater. I realized how fortunate our community is to have a facility, a complex, as beautiful and functional as Ridgeline. Two massive events happening in the building at the same time…and I literally went from cheering and screaming in the gym, to where I could hear the actors voices on the stage in the middle of their performance. Also, pretty cool!
My final observation comes from today… I was sitting in the main hallway at a café table writing this newsletter when I heard some giggling girls coming down the stairs. I recognized the young ladies as they are part of our English Language Development program (ELD). Similar to much of the country, our school has seen a significant number of students who speak very limited or no English at all. What struck me when I heard the girls giggling is how we all have one universal language in common--the language of laughter! When we laugh and smile, we all communicate and understand the same message. It was a cool moment.
GOOD LUCK to our Girls Soccer team heading to a state playoff game tonight vs Peninsula HS! We wish you the very best and we are already very proud of you and will be cheering you on, even if from across the mountains!
You know what to do…please stay up to speed on all things Ridgeline—read the Flyer!
Make it a great weekend! –Mr. Hardt
