Sonia Sotomayor
Sonia Sotomayor is a groundbreaking figure in American jurisprudence, known for her role as the first Latina Supreme Court Justice. Born on June 25, 1954, in The Bronx, New York, to Puerto Rican parents, Sotomayor faced significant challenges in her early life, including financial hardships and diabetes. However, her determination led her to excel academically, earning a scholarship to Princeton University and later receiving her law degree from Yale Law School.
Before her appointment to the Supreme Court in 2009 by President Barack Obama, Sotomayor served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and had a notable career as a prosecutor and private attorney. Throughout her career, she has advocated for social justice, equity, and the importance of personal experiences in shaping the law. Her decisions often reflect a deep understanding of the human impact of legal rulings, making her a powerful voice for marginalized communities.
Sotomayor’s life and work continue to inspire countless individuals, highlighting the importance of diversity in leadership and the judiciary.
Principal's Message
Suicide Prevention
Hello Trojan Families,
As we recognize Suicide Prevention Month, I want to encourage you to prioritize open conversations with your children. It's essential to create an environment where they feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.
Young people today face various challenges, and ongoing dialogue can make a significant difference in their mental well-being. Rather than relying on one long, uncomfortable conversation, aim for many shorter, more frequent discussions. These lighter chats can help your kids feel safe and supported, making it easier for them to approach you with any concerns.
The more you engage in these brief conversations, the more natural it becomes, allowing you to provide them with important information and guidance to make healthy choices. Remember, your openness can be a vital resource in helping them navigate life’s adversities.
Thank you for your commitment to supporting your children.
Warm regards,
Michael Abraham
