HPE Rules for Life - Students of the Week
This week, we are excited to recognize our Patriots who are Students of the Week for their exceptional demonstration of patience. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, or during collaborative activities, these students showed a deep sense of understanding, kindness, and perseverance in challenging situations.
We believe that patience is an important skill that helps our students grow not only as learners but as individuals. By taking the time to listen, reflect, and support one another, these students set a wonderful example for all of us!
Please join us in congratulating these outstanding students and encouraging them to continue showing such wonderful character. We are so proud of all of their hard work and dedication!

Nurse Notes
Regardless of the grade, accidents happen during the day: milk spilling at lunch, mud/wet conditions on the playground, toileting accidents, etc. Please pack an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpacks for these unexpected mishaps. If your child does need to borrow any clothes from the clinic, please launder and return to the clinic as soon as possible.
The clinic could use pants for both boys and girls. Any donation would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Counselor's Corner
Dear HPE Families,
In today’s world, technology is part of our daily lives, and children are navigating the digital world at a young age. We want to ensure that our students develop the skills they need to be safe, respectful, and responsible digital citizens.
Digital citizenship is about teaching our children how to interact online in a positive and responsible way. Here are some key areas we're focusing on at school, and we encourage you to reinforce these at home:
1. Online Safety
Remind children not to share personal information like their full name, address, or passwords online.
Encourage them to tell a trusted adult if they encounter anything online that makes them uncomfortable.
2. Respectful Communication
Just like in person, treating others with kindness and respect is essential online.
We encourage students to think before they post, comment, or send messages, remembering that words can have a lasting impact.
3. Balancing Screen Time
It’s important for children to balance screen time with offline activities. Setting time limits and establishing tech-free zones or times at home can help.
4. Digital Footprint Awareness
Children are learning that what they post online can last a long time. We want them to understand that their online actions are part of their digital “footprint” and to use this awareness to make positive choices.
Our goal is to work together with you to create a safe and positive online experience for your child. If you have any questions about digital citizenship, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to partnering with you to support your child's digital growth and safety!
Thank you for your support in nurturing responsible digital citizens.
Have a great weekend!

Social and Emotional Learning
KINDERGARTEN
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that kindness is a way to show people that they care and that doing kind acts can make both the giver and the receiver feel good. They’ll share personal examples and discuss how they felt when they gave or received kind acts.
Try This at Home: Help your child think of a kind act they can do for someone and support them in carrying it out. With your child, discuss how they think the receiver of the kind act felt. Ask your child how they felt doing a kind act for someone.
1ST GRADE
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn and practice two ways they can be kind to others: asking, “Are you okay?” and offering to keep someone company.
Try This at Home: Help your child think of a family member or close friend who could use some company. Encourage them to ask the person, “Would you like some company?”
2ND GRADE
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will explain why their classmates have a different feeling from theirs in the same situation.
Try This at Home: Ask your child to tell you what they learned about their classmates’ feelings and their own feelings.
3rd GRADE
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how empathy—the ability to understand and feel how someone else is feeling—and kindness can help build new friendships.
Try This at Home: Ask your child what kind things they could they do to build a friendship with someone.
4th GRADE
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that our brain works best when the logic and emotion centers are balanced and working together.
Try This at Home: Tell your child about a time when a strong emotion made it hard for you to learn something new or caused you to say or do something that hurt someone’s feelings. Discuss why it’s important to learn to manage strong emotions.

Riverside Intermediate PTO Call Out
We are grateful to the Elementary PTO Leaders for their unwavering commitment and hard work in assisting all children, teachers, and support staff throughout your child's elementary years.
We are eager to maintain the same level of commitment and enthusiasm for the RSI community during the 2025/2026 PTO school year as we embark on the next amazing chapter with Intermediate School.
If you have never participated in or supported any roles under the PTO, this is also an ideal opportunity to join and support a co-chair function. You will be a part of great leaders that can teach and support you in various co-chair roles that are needed to support long after you have enjoyed your time at RSI.
In order to sustain the enthusiasm of the HAWK Parties (3 times annually), teacher appreciation, dine-to-donate, 6th grade celebration party, Read-A-Thon, and Teacher Grants, among others, we are currently recruiting for a few executive positions for the 2025/2026 school year. It is significantly distinct from the Elementary Level, and the transition is significantly smoother due to the exceptional leadership. Be a part of something unique; join the RSI PTO.
Reach out to riversideintpto@gmail.com to obtain additional information or to distinguish yourself during the call. We are eagerly anticipating the continuation of RSI's exceptional year of celebrations with your support.
