Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Community,
As we move full steam ahead into spring, it’s heartening to see the sun shining brighter and the days growing warmer. The beautiful weather brings a sense of renewal and optimism. This time of year certainly makes us reflect on the beautiful location in which we all live and work. Southern Maine is truly a gem and the six communities of RSU 57 are especially beautiful this time of year.
During the second week of May, we celebrated Staff Appreciation Week, a time dedicated to honoring the incredible efforts of our amazing staff. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to every member of our RSU 57 team. From our talented teachers who inspire and educate, to our diligent support staff who ensure our schools run smoothly, and our committed administrators who provide leadership and vision – each one of you plays a vital role in the success and well-being of our students. Your unwavering commitment and passion for education are evident in the countless ways you support our students every day.
To our custodians, bus drivers, facilities crew, cafeteria workers, technology staff, administrative assistants and all support personnel, thank you for your hard work and dedication. Your invaluable contributions to our schools make RSU 57 a wonderful place for students to learn. To our teachers and administrators, thank you for your tireless commitment to educating and empowering our students. Your creativity, patience, and leadership make a profound difference in the lives of our young learners and in the continuous improvement of our district.
I am thrilled to congratulate our MHS top ten graduating students in the class of 2024. Their hard work, dedication, and excellence have set a high standard for their peers and brought pride to our community. For more information on these amazing students please follow this link.
As we move forward into the final stretch of the school year, let us look forward to the end-of-year traditions and celebrations happening at all our schools. These moments are special opportunities for families and students to come together, celebrate achievements, and create lasting memories. I encourage everyone to participate and enjoy these wonderful events.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Warm regards,
Dr. Stephen D. Marquis

PreK Parades at Hacklock Field
On Friday May 10th, students from RSU 57 showcased their pride at the Portland Sea Dogs Game! These students were nominated by their teachers for their growth and achievement in the classroom. As part of the recognition, students received a certificate and a complimentary ticket to the game. Accompanied by teachers and their families, students joyously paraded around the field and enjoyed the thrill of seeing their names displayed on the scoreboard! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and supported this wonderful event!
NJROTC Cadets Tour Sector Northern New England
On May 14, 36 cadets from the RSU 57 MHS Navy JROTC embarked on an exciting field trip to South Portland, where they toured Sector Northern New England and set sail on the Cutter Thunder Bay. This memorable experience allowed the cadets who went underway to earn the prestigious Sea Cruise ribbon to proudly display on their uniforms. This inaugural visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership, paving the way for future opportunities and experiences for our cadets. We extend a special thank you to LT Pamela Manns of Sector Northern New England and LT Brian Hagerty of Cutter Thunder Bay for their invaluable partnership and dedication to our cadets.
Glow Party Celebration at Line!
Ms. Gleason's 2nd Grade Class at Line School enjoyed a Glow Party earlier this month as a reward earned for making positive behavior choices. Students played academic games and had a wonderful time celebrating their learning!
NHS Spring Clean Up
Several members of the MHS National Honor Society once again rolled up their sleeves and put in some good old fashioned elbow grease to help make areas of our community just a bit brighter and better. Some students put some finishing touches on MHS bathrooms, others conducted a clean up of the Waterboro Elementary School playground and nearby Friendship Park, and some volunteered at the Alfred Elementary School Color Stroll!
Pizza Party At Alfred
Students in 5th grade at AES finished a math project on fractions. This project required students to create a unique pizza that included assorted toppings to represent different fractions of the whole pizza. They had to show three equivalent fractions for each of the toppings and write two word stories about their pizza fractions! They enjoyed a pizza party afterwards to celebrate their hard work. Thank you to our Nutrition Department, Ms. Dyer & Ms. Herrin, for helping us with this project!
MMS Choral Concert
On May 14, the Massabesic Middle School Chorus under the director of Director Benjamin Holbrook had an amazing spring concert! The event was well-attended by many families and community members. Well done, everyone!
