North Merrick Minute
An e-newsletter from the North Merrick Schools: Fall 2024
A Message From the Desk of Dr. Cynthia Seniuk, Superintendent of Schools
Dear Parents, Faculty and Staff,
It’s been an exciting two months filled with active, engaged learning and meaningful events that have brought us closer together as a school community. In this edition of the North Merrick Minute, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences and achievements we’ve already shared as a community.
Our classrooms are alive with enthusiasm, where students are deeply immersed in their learning. Whether it’s hands-on science experiments, collaborative group projects or innovative approaches to literacy, our educators continue to inspire and challenge students each day. We are proud of the hard work and dedication of both our students and staff, who are making the most of each learning opportunity.
Beyond the classroom, we have celebrated a variety of community events that remind us of the strength and spirit of our district. From our Meet, Greet and a Treat event in August to our annual Halloween Trunk or Treat, our students and families have come together to support each other, create memories and build lasting bonds. It’s moments like these that truly highlight what makes our district such a special place.
As we enter the months of November and December, we are reminded of the importance of balance and wellness. The upcoming holiday season is a time for rest, reflection and togetherness. On behalf of the entire district, I wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season filled with joy and connection.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. I look forward to the many exciting moments yet to come as we move forward in this school year together.

Students Get Warm Welcome at ‘Meet, Greet and a Treat’
North Merrick students received a sweet start to the school year along with a warm welcome from their teachers during the annual Meet, Greet and a Treat event on Aug. 29.
All faculty and staff at Camp Avenue, Harold D. Fayette and Old Mill Road elementary schools stood at tables in front of their buildings waiting for students who were making their first steps towards an exciting new adventure. Teachers greeted students and parents, alleviating nerves before the first day of school. Students received a pencil case complete with pencils, a bookmark and wristbands with the message, “You got this!” The cheerful event was a positive start to what will be a thrilling year.

Halloween Season Begins With Trunk or Treat
It was costumes galore at the Harold D. Fayette School as teachers and faculty members decorated their trunks and handed out treats to hundreds of students on Oct. 19.
The annual Trunk or Treat, hosted by the North Merrick Faculty Association, is a highly anticipated event that brings the community together. Ahead of the holiday, North Merrick students were ready with their inventive and imaginative Halloween costumes and were greeted with excitement by their teachers and school staff. The trunks of cars were decorated with eye-catching displays under various themes, such as “Candyland” or “Lego Land.” Aside from sweet treats, students also received goodies like bookmarks and enjoyed fun activities like limbo. Although it’s the season of scares, smiles shined on every face in attendance.
