Laker Transitions Newsletter
Hello everyone!
Laker Transitions students have been very busy since our last update. We've gained two new students who have been a wonderful addition to our building! Each of our students continue to work on the development of their employability and independent living skills. Current worksites include The Boys and Girls Club Thrift Store AND Childcare Center, Lit Decor & Gift, Ecumen, Detroit Lakes Public Schools, and D&D Appliance. As always, thank you to the businesses we've partnered with! You are a MAJOR part of our growth and development!
Students also continue their volunteer experiences at the Becker County Food Pantry, Pelican Landing, and the Holmes Theater. Giving back to the community is such a great way to experience fulfillment & meet great people.
In February, we hosted our third annual Cookie Social (previously held in December). This was such a fun opportunity for our students to practice SO MANY skills. Some of these awesome skills include baking, hosting, greeting, maintaining the food/beverage areas, planning ahead, and socializing with some awesome people within our district. Thanks to all who came to our Cookie Social!
We also recently hosted a guest speaker, Kylie Johnson, who spoke with students about workplace relationships & conflict resolution. The students were able to practice what they would do and say in various workplace situations and ask thoughtful questions after Kylie's presentation. Thanks for coming to speak to us, Kylie!
Last week, we had even more wonderful growth when Jared got his driver's permit. Nice work, Jared!
Students continue to work on essential independent living skills. These skills include budgeting, cooking, doing laundry, looking for apartments, and so much more! As always, each student's educational experience is tailored to them & their individual needs.
We look forward to the continued growth and development for all of our students in the last few months of the school year!
Until next time,
Amber Colby, Laker Transitions/Work-Based Learning Teacher
