Good afternoon Riverton families!

Happy Tuesday. This week is the first full week of Black History Month. Black History Month serves as an essential reminder of the rich and diverse contributions that African Americans have made to society throughout history. This month provides an invaluable opportunity for our school community to celebrate and honor the achievements, struggles, and cultural heritage of Black individuals and communities. The 2024 Black History month theme is "African Americans and the Arts." This theme explores the key influence African Americans have had in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression. Students at the Riverton School explore and learn about the celebrations and accomplishments in art, music, ELA, math, social studies, and science. By recognizing and highlighting the stories of Black leaders, activists, artists, scientists, and everyday heroes, we not only pay tribute to their resilience and accomplishments but also promote understanding, empathy, and inclusivity. Although Black History Month is celebrated in February, the Riverton School's Cultural Diversity curriculum is infused throughout the entire school year.

Each year I will continue to reflect on the curriculum and enhance all needed to components to ensure all members of our community are included and celebrated. Have a wonderful week.
