CES Back to School
from the Desk of Principal Dodds
WELCOME BACK!
This is year two serving as principal, but my 17th year at the elementary. CES is my home away from home. I believe that our kids are capable of doing amazing things. They can do anything with our love, support, and healthy boundaries. I also believe that in order for them to be successful and meet their goals we need to work together. I welcome positive input, collaboration, and problem solving throughout our year(s) together.
This year is a unique year. It's a year of "lasts". Friday was our "last open house on Third Street". Monday will be our "last first day on Third Street". August and September will be our "last, ugh it's so hot in here" well, maybe until May.
Third Street has served us well over the years. Third street is where we went from three buildings to one elementary. For our students and staff it's where we became stronger Warriors, met new friends, and continue to grow as learners. Next year at this time we will be celebrating a lot of firsts. Our new building will quickly become our new home for the 2025-2026 school year.
Until then, we are going to appreciate all of our "lasts" on Third Street. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dodds

- If parking in the former HS Student parking lot

- If you are getting parked after 8:40AM the chances of your student being late to the classroom is high
Car Riders: Use the Main Entrance
- Students need to be on the passenger side and unbuckled
- Adults stay in the car
- Same route as Dismissal (see below)
🔴 There is no parking or drop offs in the bus zone (Third Street) or in the parking lot next to the main entrance. 🔴
Students who arrive to the building after 8:45 AM have to be signed into the office by an adult.
- Remember those minutes can add up quickly and they do count against attendance.
Dismissal
Dismissal is the most stressful time of the day. It is one of my least favorite times of the day. During this time of day we are dismissing between 700-800 students out of the building. For that fact your cooperation is extremely important. It is a priority for CES to get every student home safely and where they need to be.
Things that help us get it right:
- Changes happen, we know that. However, changes after 1:00 PM adds stress to the dismissal system. If you have to make a change please call the office (330.627.4592) prior to 1:00 PM. An email to the office staff or teacher is not a guarantee. Our teachers are teaching up until 3:10, they are not checking emails or apps.
- If you have a shared parenting/custody agreement a monthly calendar is extremely helpful.
Things that potentially cause "harm"/ "stress the system":
Example 1:
- It's a busy morning everyone is running around the house getting ready for school. You are talking about your day and you casually mention to your child you are going to be in to town today and may pick them up.
- What your child hears: I AM PICKING YOU UP FROM SCHOOL TODAY
Example 2:
- You are running late for school and when your child is getting out of the car at drop off you tell them "I forgot to write a note. You're a parent pickup today I need to run to Canton after school."
- What your child hears: I am a parent pick up today.
- Reality: You told your child, but the school hasn't been formally notified. Your child will be put on the bus as usual due to no note or phone call. You are in parent pickup line and now your child is on the bus.
No note or phone call we will do what is the normal end of day for your child.
We make mistakes also, there is no full proof dismissal protocol. If there were we'd already be doing it. I appreciate your cooperation in making dismissal run as close to perfect as it can, and when there is a mistake I appreciate your understanding of we are human and we do everything we can do to make it happen with accuracy.
"Car Riders" - Parent Pick Up Line
Reminders for a safe and efficient parent pickup line experience
Students Released: 3:10 pm
*Please do not arrive prior to 2:30 PM*
- Adults stay in the vehicle - do not get out of the vehicle
- We have staff that will open the car door and help your student(s) into the car
- Students will enter on the passenger side
- Student will need to buckle themselves
- If your student is unable to buckle themselves please feel free to pull off into one of our visitor spots - this allows the pickup line to continue to operate
Patience and kindness is greatly appreciated. When we work together Parent Pick Up Line can dismiss up to 100 students in 20ish minutes.
Bus Riders
Students are released to busses as they arrive back from their MS/HS route
"Walkers"
Location: Students are released from the gym lobby doors
Student Safety:
- We have staff at the gym lobby to stop traffic for students to cross to the parking lot. PAY ATTENTION WHEN LEAVING THE LOT, watch for students
- A staff member is also at the crosswalk that crosses North Lisbon for parents who wait in the church parking lot
First 2 weeks of school times may vary
iPad Insurance
$30 per student - payments accepted until September 30, 2024
This is not required, however if you do not purchase the insurance and your child's iPad gets broken you will be sent a letter and a bill for $90 each time it is broken. Please understand if you do not pay the $90 that fee will follow your student year to year. It will catch up when it is time for them to graduate.
Speaking as a mom, I buy the insurance each year just like I do for my car. You have insurance and you hope you never have to use it.
Reminders:
- CES will not accept deliveries for students
- Students are permitted and encouraged to bring water bottles
- Water ONLY - pop, sports drinks, fizzy water, etc are not permitted
- Go home each night to be cleaned
- We have several bottle fillers throughout the building
- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE complete and update your Final Forms
- Students cannot go on field trips until these are updated
