Educational Success at Toongabbie West Public School
At Toongabbie West Public School, our teachers work together to provide evidence-based teaching and learning that is tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students. Our educators and leaders are dedicated to offering the highest quality educational experience, ensuring that every student makes progress each year.
Our collaborative approach ensures that all classes within each stage are engaged with the same curriculum content, which is differentiated to suit individual student requirements.
Key Components of Educational Success at Toongabbie West Public School:
Emphasis on Reading and Numeracy: We employ explicit teaching strategies that empower all students to meet their reading and numeracy goals.
Collaborative Planning: Teachers collaborate in stage groups to plan, instruct, assess, reflect, evaluate, and report on student progress collectively.
Supportive Learning Environment: Our School Learning and Support Officers (SLSOs), Deputy Principal, Assistant Principals, specialist Learning and Support teachers, English as Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) teachers, and Small Group Tuition staff work closely with classroom teachers to enhance student learning.
Personalised Learning: Teachers adapt their instructional methods to align with students’ needs and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary, involving parents and caregivers in the process.
We are privileged to have a committed and collaborative staff who prioritise students in all teaching and learning activities, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to realise their full potential and excel.
Newly established Inclusive Classes
As I mentioned in the last newsletter last year and in our P&C meeting last week, I am pleased to share some wonderful updates regarding our newly established Inclusive Classes, which have been successfully launched this year. Our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where every student can thrive has driven this initiative, and I am delighted to report that it is already going exceptionally well.
The introduction of these four Inclusive Classes has allowed us to better cater to the diverse learning needs of our students. In these classrooms, we are implementing differentiated teaching strategies and individualised support to ensure that all learners, regardless of their learning and wellbeing needs, have access to a high-quality education. Our dedicated team of teachers and support staff is focused on creating an engaging and nurturing atmosphere that promotes both academic and social-emotional growth.
We have seen remarkable progress in our students since the establishment of these classes. The individualised interventions are making a significant difference, enabling students to build confidence and develop important skills. It has been heart warming to witness the sense of belonging and community that has blossomed within these classes.
We are confident that these inclusive classes will not only benefit our students but will also strengthen our entire school community. Let’s continue to work in partnership to ensure that every child at our school has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
Moving into Year 7 for High School in 2026
The Year 6 to 7 transition process is now open. The Moving to high school page has now been added to primary school websites as a sub-page under the Enrolment tab. Parents and carers will need to complete digital expressions of interest or Placement Not required, on the Moving to high school page on our school website by 28 March 2025.
If you have any questions regarding this new process, please contact the school on 9631 3610.
Wonderful Work By The Students
I am truly delighted to witness students reaching their learning goals.
It’s always a joy when they come to visit me in my office.
Take a look at the incredible work that the students have shared with me over the past fortnight.

Deputy Principal Report
The start to the 2025 school year has been exciting at Toongabbie West Public School, due to the establishment of 4 Inclusive Education classes. These classes are designed to provide a smaller class environment for students with disability, with a focus on both their learning and wellbeing.
I am excited to be working at Toongabbie West Public School in the role of Deputy Principal - Inclusion and Support, where I will be working across the school to foster an inclusive environment for all students. I am an experienced and passionate educator who has a broad range of teaching and leadership experiences from Kindergarten to Year 6, in both Mainstream and Inclusive Education. I look forward to getting to know the students and their families in the Toongabbie West community and working together to ensure that every student receives the support that they need to experience success.

Stage on a Page
The ‘Stage on a Page’ documents linked below provide a brief outline of the content that will be covered in each stage this term, across all key learning areas. In NSW, Early Stage 1 refers to Kindergarten, Stage 1 refers to Years 1 and 2, Stage 2 refers to Years 3 and 4, and Stage 3 refers to Years 5 and 6. These documents were mentioned at ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions last week and will be provided each term for your reference.
4/5S
The start of a new year is always exciting, because we find out who our new teacher is, and which friends are in our class! – Addison
I was lucky enough to be elected as an SRC representative for our class, and I’m really looking forward to the meetings, because we will discuss ideas for school activities. - Faith
We looked at famous still life paintings then started to paint our own. I loved learning about how to blend colours. I was scared my painting was going to look messy, but it looks awesome! – Chloe
I have loved learning about how to use light and shade to make my art look 3D. Surprisingly, my painting looks amazing! - Anbagilan
We have been reading a novel called ‘Just Tricking!’ by Andy Griffiths. We found out it’s really funny! – Arya
After reading each chapter of ‘Just Tricking!’, we discuss the characters and setting and we write chapter summaries. - Lasmitha
Today, we played goalball, which is a Paralympic sport. In one of the rounds, we were blindfolded and we had to listen for the bell inside the ball, while people tried to score goals. -Jaap
I tried out for league tag, and I was so excited because I made it into the team! This is going to be a great year! A lot of people in Year 5 are looking forward to running for school captain. - Vidyuth
This year, we have already done so much, in the blink of an eye! We have already improved our English and maths skills, and I think by the end of this year my writing will be fabulous! We have also done lots of fun activities, and played awesome sports including league tag and cricket. – Joshua
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is an important day which honours Australia's amazing cultural diversity. Our school celebrates inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional custodians of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world.
This year, students are to wear their sports uniform and may wear a small item that is orange such as a hair tie, socks, or shoelaces.
We will ask families to donate photos showing their culture so we can make a 'cultural collage' display. Photos cannot be returned, so please only send in a copy and hand in to the office by Monday 17 March.
We will have a colouring competition for our K-2 students and our 3-6 students will design a poster. A winner will be selected from each class, and they will receive a Zooper Dooper ice block as a prize and have their work displayed.

Fostering Healthy Friendships and Social Skills
Friendships play an important role in our children’s development. Healthy friendships help children build self-esteem, learn empathy, and navigate social dynamics. As parents, you play a key role in supporting your child in fostering positive friendships.
Here are some ways to encourage and nurture healthy friendships and social skills:
💡 Encourage Open Conversations
Talk with your child about their friendships, how they’re feeling, and any conflicts. Let them know it’s okay to discuss both the positive and challenging moments, helping them feel heard and supported.
💡 Teach Empathy
Encourage your child to consider their friends’ feelings and practice kindness. Teach them how to respond when others are feeling sad or upset.
💡 Support Conflict Resolution
Guide your child through finding solutions to conflicts. Teach them that disagreements are natural and can be solved through communication and compromise, helping them grow together.
💡 Promote Inclusivity
Encourage your child to reach out to those who might feel left out. Building a supportive network of friends fosters kindness and creates a more inclusive environment.
By helping your child develop strong social skills, you’re setting them up for success in building and maintaining friendships that will serve them well throughout their lives.
If you’d like your child to be part of the chaplain-run programs or need additional support, reach out by talking to the class teacher or contacting me through the school office on Thursdays and Fridays. Appointments can be made through the office.
