Knighthawk Family News
Pleasant Knoll Middle School
Message from Mr. Young
I hope that all of our families had a wonderful Winter Break. We are kicking off the 2nd semester of the 2018-19 school year this week. As the year will start to wind down, we ask our students to really look at their academic performance and how they can continue their success or improve on how they performed in the 1st semester. If you feel your child is not performing to their greatest potential, please contact their teachers or the school. It is important that we work together to help them be successful.
One of the main events that we are looking forward to in the second semester is our Literacy/STEAM night on March 21. We ask all of our families to come out and see what our students have been working on related to our One School, One Book, Refugee by Alan Gratz. Our students have a lot of work that they will present that night as well as quite a few fun activities. Also, as spring sports kicks off in about a month, we will have many athletic events that you can bring your family to and support the Knighthawks. We look forward to seeing you!
Thank you again for your support of your child and PKMS!
Grey Young, Principal

Nurse's News
It is not too late for the flu vaccine
Why should people get vaccinated against the flu?
The first and most important step in preventing the flu is to get a flu vaccine each year. A flu vaccine has been shown to reduce flu related illnesses and the risk of serious flu complications that can result in hospitalization or even death. CDC also recommends everyday preventive actions (like staying away from people who are sick, covering coughs and sneezes and frequent hand-washing) to help slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat, and lungs) illnesses, like flu.
For more information visit https://www.scdhec.gov/health
ATTENTION: 6th GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Please make an appointment for your child to update their Tdap vaccination before next school year. ALL seventh graders will be REQUIRED to get the Tdap vaccine to protect them against whooping cough (pertussis). One (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered on or after the 7th birthday will be required for all seventh graders. It is strongly recommended that adolescents who have not yet received a dose of Tdap vaccine be immunized in advance of this requirement. Students who are not up to date with their Tdap vaccination may not be allowed to attend school. For more information, please visit www.scdhec.gov/health/vaccinations
Please send a copy of the immunization record to the school nurse once they receive the updated vaccination.
