Important Membership Info for 2021-2022
4honline will be transitioning from 1.0 to 2.0, so 4honline will be shut down until November 8. We will send out emails letting you know when youth may again (re)enroll through the ne.4honline.com website once the Nebraska State 4-H Office makes it available.
Please note, this year the Nebraska State 4-H Office will impose a statewide enrollment deadline date that will assist counties in having a consistent timeline for processing membership enrollments. Once that date is announced from the State 4-H Office, it will be released from the Extension Office.
What does this mean? ENROLL EARLY and don't miss the statewide deadline to be a Nebraska 4-H member! :-)
All leaders and volunteers also need to be enrolled on 4honline. They is no fee to enroll.
4-H Enrollment Open House
Shaniya Albertus, 4-H Assistant, will be traveling to each county to help families enroll in 4-H using the new 4-H Online 2.0 system. Once enrolled, 4-Hers can also begin selecting projects. It is important that children are signed up for the correct projects when it comes to fair time and selecting items to send to the Nebraska State Fair. She will also be available to answer questions that you may have with the new system or with project enrollment. Adults can also sign up as volunteers at this time, and Shaniya can help with volunteer screening.
Below are the locations and times for the month of November:
November 15- Central Sandhills Extension Office located in the Thomas County Courthouse from 8:00 - 12:00, and 1:00 to 6:00 CT.
November 16- Hyannis Public School from 3:00 - 5:30 MT during robotics practice.
November 17- Central Sandhills Area Extension Office located in the Hooker County Courthouse, from 3:00 - 6:00 MT.
November 29- Sandhills Public School Library, from 3:00 - 5:00 CT.
Additional enrollment workshops may be available later in the 4-H year. If you have questions, please contact Shaniya by calling 308-645-2267, or emailing at s.albertus@unl.edu.
Attention: Adult members and volunteers
All 4-H volunteers and staff are required to complete the Nebraska 4-H volunteer screening process. Volunteer screening is done in order to assure a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for all youth involved with the Nebraska 4-H programs and provide protection for the child, the volunteer, the educator, the 4-H Council, the Extension Board, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension.
Initial screening of volunteers and staff will occur when they sign up to volunteer or are employed as an Extension professional. Re-screening for volunteers will be done every five years by district regardless of when the original screening was completed. Volunteers are responsible for covering the screening fee at the time the screening is completed. Currently, the cost of the screening is $5.00. Please see click on the link below for more details.

November 4-H Featured Project
“Citizenship is the chance to make a difference to the place where you belong.” -Charles Handy
Citizenship is the relationship we foster between ourselves, our community, and country. Some would refer to this as patriotism as well. Being a part of something, involved and willing to participate, is something many of us feel strongly about. Our communities rely on the citizenship of their members to function and improve. So, what does it mean to be a good citizen and why is this important to your local 4-H club?
One of the key elements in 4-H is fostering civic responsibility within our members. By promoting this project, we are hoping that youth will learn and understand the value of exploring how they fit within their community and how they can be of service for the greater good. By focusing on the active citizenship project students will:
Develop skills in decision making, critical thinking, and contributing to group efforts.
Develop a personal relationship and commitment to their community and country.
Increase their confidence on their ability to participate and be of service.
Understand concepts associated with citizenship.
Become creators, producers. And owners within their communities and country.
This project has many possibilities for activities and exploration that can in turn be entered in county fairs as exhibits. Youth can participate in creating care packages, patriotic arts, service learning, citizenship essays, interviews with public leaders, creating services items to help their community, and many more. As stated in the 2021 Nebraska State Fair book, “the purpose of these citizenship exhibits is to foster civic responsibility and action within the diverse areas of citizenship including community service, service learning, government and policy making.” For more information visit go.unl.edu/citizenship.
If your 4-Her is interested in working on a citizenship project and you want more information, please contact the 4-H Assistant Shaniya at s.albertus@unl.edu.
4-H Scholarships Available
The Nebraska 4-H Foundation offers 4-H members the opportunity to apply for scholarships. The Nebraska 4-H Foundation awards up to $22,000 worth of scholarships each year to 4-H’ers from across the state.
To apply for scholarships, 4-H’ers must submit the Nebraska 4-H Achievement Application for state-level review by January 15th. Youth must follow the application instructions available on the Nebraska 4-H Achievement Application webpage. If applying for multiple scholarships, only one Achievement Application should be submitted. An applicant must select the scholarship to which he/she feels qualified.
4-H youth may want to visit with the Extension Office in their county and the financial aid office at the college of their choice. There may be other grants, scholarships, or low-interest loans for which they may be eligible.
