Principally Speaking
Dear Winthrop Families,
It is a busy time of the year and our newsletter is chock full this week of announcements, so we will keep the principally speaking column short and sweet this week Just a reminder about the free vaccination clinic happening tonight at Doyon School:
The Paul F. Doyon Memorial School (216 Linebrook Road) will be hosting a vaccine clinic from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 13, which is open to all members of our Ipswich Schools community.
There is still time to sign your family up for an influenza and/or COVID vaccine!
We have RE-OPENED the registration link and WE STILL HAVE OPENINGS AVAILABLE!
Staff from Conley's Drug Store will be set up in the Doyon School gymnasium to provide influenza and COVID vaccines to anyone ages 3 and up. Since most insurance plans cover the full cost of vaccines, there is no cost for the vast majority of folks. To register to participate and receive one or both vaccines, please use this Ipswich School Community Vaccination Clinic registration link.
Sincerely,
Amy B. Sullivan, Principal
Nicki Amisson, Assistant Principal

Kindergarten Round Up
Calling all families of incoming kindergarten students! Kindergarten Roundup is the first step in the kindergarten registration process. Each year at this time we try to determine the names of children who will enter kindergarten in the Ipswich Public Schools in September. It is essential that we have these names now so that we can begin the school registration process and plan for classes.
Families of students who are eligible to attend kindergarten in September 2024 should take a moment to complete a Kindergarten Roundup Form.
Please click on the link below for more information and access to the Kindergarten Roundup Form:

Ipswich Caring
Dear Winthrop Families,
During this holiday season, the Winthrop School community has a great deal to be thankful for. This time of year we try very consciously to help children focus on the giving and sharing aspects of the season and to develop a sense of how fortunate we all are to have school, families, and our health, when many in the world and our town are still in need.
We have a long-standing tradition at Winthrop School with Ipswich Caring. Ipswich Caring makes significant contributions to Ipswich families during the holiday season, as well as throughout the year with its many programs. We would greatly appreciate it if you would forego giving gifts to the staff at this time. Those of you who feel the need to “do something” are encouraged to make a donation to Ipswich Caring. If you’d like to make a contribution, you may fill out the form below to send to the teacher to let her/him know that you’ve made a donation in their honor. Your contribution can be sent in cash or as a check made out to Ipswich Caring, along with the form, and dropped off at the office.
Thank you for honoring our request.
Wishing you health and happiness over the holidays!

All School Pajama Day ~ Friday, December 22nd
On Friday, December 22nd all students are invited to wear their pj's to school to celebrate the last day before December vacation.
We have plenty of extra, new pajamas for any student who would like a pair. Please reach out to your child's teacher or Principal Sullivan if your child may need a new set and we will send them home (discreetly) ahead of time. We will also have plenty of extra new pj's ready for any student who may forget theirs on the 22nd.
Participating in PJ day is optional. Comfy clothes and sweats are perfectly acceptable, too.
Harvest of the Month
Harvest of the Month!
Carrots
By Bryce Donnelly, Grade 4
Harvest of the Month is here again! The Green Team wants to share their yummy carrot fries this Friday, December 15th. Make sure you try some carrot fries at your lunch.
Here are some cool carrot facts.
Carrots are great energy boosters.
A person eats about 11,000 carrots in their entire lifetime.
Carrot seeds are so tiny that one teaspoon can hold 2,000 carrot seeds.
HERE’S the Honey Roasted Carrots recipe.
My School Bucks
Did You Know...
...that for the 2023-2024 school year, ALL Massachusetts students are provided complimentary breakfast and lunch? It's true! While many students do bring their own lunch to school each day, all of our Doyon students may receive a nutritious lunch, including milk, from the Doyon School cafeteria every day.
Did you know that our cafeteria offers all students a second school lunch, if they are still hungry? That's also true! If your child would like a second helping, the meals are charged according to the school's current meal rates. We do not have an ala carte menu, only complete meal, which include an entree, a fruit or vegetable option, and a milk or juice.
As an added convenience, families may add funds to their child’s MySchoolBucks account. You can take advantage of the option to prepay your student's meal accounts by logging into your My School Bucks account. To check your account balance, and/or to add funds to your account, click on the link below.
Prepaid meal accounts help the lunch lines go faster and give students more time to eat, relax, and play. It also gives you the peace of mind of not having to worry about looking for lunch money every day or worry that it might get lost (or used for other things other than lunch!).
