WMS Weekly Warrior
January 27, 2025

Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
"All right, April, we get it—you’re into showers. Enough already! The second week of April is very busy for WMS. Starting with our SBA prep week. For one block of time each day, students will practice and review skills related to the Smarter Balance Assessment, which will begin the week of April 28th. Please encourage your student to do their best as this assessment is an indicator of the hard work they have put in throughout the school year.
This message was sent directly to you last Friday by the Superintendent; we are resending it to you in case you missed it.
The climate and culture of our schools play an important part in improving student achievement. The schools in Region 14 have developed school climate plans that revolve around strategies that promote and enhance a positive school climate. Gathering data and feedback is part of the process in developing school climate plans. As we have done in the past, we will be gathering feedback from our staff, parents, and students (grades 3-12).
On Monday, April 7, 2025, parents will be receiving an email and text message inviting them to participate in a very short survey. On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, staff will be receiving a link to complete the survey. Students in grades 3-12 will complete a brief survey next week. I ask that you follow the link in the email and complete the simple survey. Administrative and school climate teams will analyze the feedback data from the surveys and develop next year's school climate plan.
Survey responses do not contain any personally identifiable information. We thank you for your feedback and time. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s Principal if you have any questions.

The WMS performance of Frozen Jr. will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, starting at 6:00 p.m. sharp. We ask that you arrive early, as we will be closing the doors at 6:00. We will open the doors at 5:00; please do not arrive before that time, as the cast and stage crew will be finishing up on final rehearsals. We hope to see everyone at the show. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Parents, we kindly ask that you keep your children who are not participating in the play with you at all times. This will help ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience for everyone, including the actors and fellow audience members. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in supervising them throughout the performance.
The eighth-grade trip to Boston is this Thursday. Students should arrive at school by 6:00 a.m. for breakfast, and the bus will depart from WMS at 6:30 a.m. Students will return to WMS at approximately 7:00 p.m. Additionally, students who are not attending the trip should report to the LMC at the regular time for their school day.
It’s that time of year when the staff begins looking at placement for next year's math programs. The linked letter describes the placement process. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding your student's math placement.
Reminder: School is closed for spring break April 14-18.
Have a great week,
WMS Admin

Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
