Math Team
Mega Meet Next Week
The math teams are gearing up for the Mega Meet as best we can. The questions and problems presented vary greatly from the regional competition. Each year questions are written by college math students and involve multi-step situational problem solving. There is no real way to predict which angle will be expected. The 5th graders and I are doing our best to hone up on exponents and some understanding of pi. 7th and 8th Grade Students have some questions posted in our Google Classroom for at home practice. Mrs. Parker, Ms. Keenan, and I are very excited to attend the meets next week and bring our Viking Spirit to Madison.
Future Problem Solving
Green Lake Was a Blast
We had a wonderful time in Green Lake! All Vikings showed great effort and sportsmanship. Our Mount Horeb Future Problem Solvers (FPS) had another successful State Bowl appearance. At this
competition, teams of 4 students worked to provide the best solution to the issues surrounding this
year’s topic of “Automated Transportation”. Coach Powell brought 3 middle school teams, one team of 6th graders placed 3rd and a participant from 6th grade claimed first place in the MAGIC division. Coach Kealy’s high school team of seniors placed 1st in presenting their action plan in the form of a skit. While the HS MAGIC participants had a 1st place finish. Participating Middle School students were: Abigail Marshaus, Jake Nelson, Nick Running, Drew Ross, Owen Murphy, Megan Lieven, Arvin Li, Sarah Zelle, Khoudia Ndiaye, Catie Marshall. Participating High School Students were: Thomas Dahl, Efram Delahaye, Ethan Fendrick, Ayden Green, Micah Hiler, John Malin, Lea Roemer.
