Raising Highly Capable Kids
We are thrilled to offer our families a wonderful opportunity to connect with other parents while learning skills and strategies on how to raise healthy, caring, and responsible children. This 13-week program will be held at Tobias on Wednesdays from 1:00-2:30 starting this week. You will receive all the information and tools you need to make a big impact in your child's growth and development. The sessions will be facilitated by Ms. Herbst, the school counselor, and Ms. Bertelson, one of the district mental health professionals, who have both been trained on the program, Raising Highly Capable Kids. See the flyer for more information as well as the program website, RezilientKidz.com, and feel free to reach out to Ms. Herbst, jennifer.herbst@hayscisd.net, with any questions. We hope to see you there!
If you are interested in the parent program but cannot attend during the day, Chapa Middle School and Tom Green Elementary are hosting evening sessions. Childcare is provided.

Community Opportunities for Kids
From our School Nurse: Ms. Armstrong 👩🏻⚕️
Dear Families,
What ails the school?
Overall Flu and fever illness numbers are decreasing, but still very high CDC weekly Flu & ILI counts. Seeing a slight increase earlier in the month in Covid numbers nationally, AND we do have one confirmed covid in 2nd grade. CDC Covid tracker
Parents, please fill this out for confirmed Flu or covid, or for temps 100 or higher Tobias Student_Staff Illness Form (anonymous) *may email to parents if they reach out about their kid being sick
When your kid is sick? Do not send to school if getting Motrin or Tylenol AND if you didn’t check a temp OR if they got meds for fever the last 24 hours. Keep them home for temp 100 or higher, vomiting, or diarrhea. Follow district policy in the parent/student handbook for student return. For high fever 102+ or fever 2+ days, severe cough please take your child to see a doctor.

🍕 LUNCH Policies and Guidelines
Please note that students eating with families will be asked to eat on the stage area and families may not invite other friends to join them during lunch.
District policy prohibits any parents from dropping off meals in the front office from outside restaurants. This policy includes parents bringing food from a restaurant to drop off at the front desk.
If you are brining a student a forgotten lunch box or dropping off lunch, please do so at least 30 minutes prior to student lunch times. We will call students down to get their lunches.
Our front office staff is usually very busy during lunch time and depending on the day, they may not be able to bring a lunch down to the cafeteria right at the start of student lunches.
Please note that for special campus events such as Grandparents' lunch and Thanksgiving Lunch we allow families to eat in the cafe and adjustments to lunch schedules are made in order to accommodate our increase in people using the cafe.
- 🥪 Designated Nut Free Zones
- Students with nut allergies and food allergies will have designated areas at cafe tables to help keep them safe
- Students will sit with their classes at their class cafe table
- Students who have similar allergies or get a tray from our cafe are permitted to sit within the nut free zone
- Custodians will utilize safe cleaning procedures to avoid cross contamination and we will follow district guidelines and policies to ensure students with allergies are able to remain safe in our cafes.

Emotional Bank Account Lessons
Proactive language helps us learn how to use positive self-talk and how to use kind words with others. Proactive language is can-do, kind, and affirming. It sounds like “I can do it” or “We can figure this out together.” Reactive language blames and sounds like “You made me” or “I have to.”
PROACTIVE WORDS JAR Bring Habit 1: Be Proactive into greater focus by creating a proactive language jar to help family members use proactive language throughout the week.
1. Create a proactive language jar by cutting out the label and attaching it to a jar or container.
2. Use the premade proactive language cards and add them to the jar. Be sure to make your own cards as a family, too.
3. Ways to use the jar throughout the week:
- a. Pull out one phrase from the jar. Read the statement aloud. Invite family members to describe a situation where that phrase would have helped them be proactive.
- a. Read a phrase every morning as a reminder of a phrase that can help us respond proactively throughout the day.
CURIOUS QUESTIONS Discuss as a family:
1. How can talking to myself with proactive words help me show kindness to myself?
2. How can using proactive words with my family and friends help others?
