Flower Valley Vision
From the Principal...
Dear Flower Valley Community,
This upcoming week is a big week at FVES! We have our annual staff vs. parents basketball game Saturday at Rockville High School at 4:00PM. Come on out for a fun afternoon! We also have one of my favorite school activities - STEM Day - March 21st during the school day. All of our students participate in a grade level STEM activity, and our 4th grade students create an AMAZING arcade for all of our students to enjoy. It is an amazing day of learning and fun! We will share some pictures in an upcoming newsletter. I am sure your children will have lots to talk about next Friday after school. :)
Our mid-year community survey is open until Monday. If you haven't already completed it, we would really love your input. Your input helps us continue to enhance our work at Flower Valley. The survey is linked here.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Wishing you peace,
Dr. Fish

FVES STEM Day
Our annual FVES STEM Day is quickly approaching. It is Friday, March 21st! Take a look below at all of the fun our student are going to have!
- Kindergarten: The Kindergarteners will be designing a trap to catch a fly/insect.
- 1st Grade: Our 1st graders are going to have some fun with several STEM rotations. There may be gummy bears and slime involved.
- 2nd Grade: 2nd graders will be designing a marble run with obstacles a marble must successfully go through.
- 3rd Grade: Third grade will be exploring dyes that use natural resources. After learning about the history of natural dyes and how the process works, each student will dye a fabric bag to take home.
- 4th Grade: Our 4th graders will be building original arcade machines and transforming our gym into a world of fun for all of our students across all grade levels to enjoy! Check out this link to find out more about the inspiration for the arcade and STEM Day.
- 5th Grade: Our 5th graders will be doing three activities - engineer straw rockets, X-ray replicas of their hands, and the bucket tower challenge.
Kindergarten Registration 2025
Online registration for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year opened on Monday, Feb. 3. Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2025 are eligible to register. Registration will be online through the ParentVUE portal. Families that are new to MCPS will need to create a ParentVue account here. For more information about eligibility and the registration process, visit the MCPS Kindergarten Enrollment webpage or contact your local elementary school. Please share this information with anyone who you know will have a kindergarten student next year. Make sure to scroll down on the enrollment page and enroll for the correct school year (2025-2026). If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Sintetos at 240-740-1780 or email her at Catherine_A_Sintetos@mcpsmd.org.
Planning for Spring Testing at FVES
Students in grades 3 to 5 will take the MCAP assessments in April. The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. Please refer to grade level newsletters for specific dates and times of testing. If you can avoid appointments during these times, it would be greatly appreciated.
International Night
Please join us in celebrating the cultural diversity of our school community at Flower Valley’s International Night and Art Expo. It will be on Monday, April 28th at 6:30 pm in the Rockville High School Auditorium. All students will sing songs from around the world. Families are encouraged to bring a dish to share and a display board telling us about your culture. Please see the linked Google Form and flyer for more information. We are looking forward to sharing this wonderful evening with you.
MCPS Special Education Survey
Special Education Parents: the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) wants to hear from you.
MSDE has mailed the Maryland Special Education Parent Involvement Survey to all parents/guardians of students receiving special education and related services in Montgomery County. The purpose of the survey is to determine how well your child’s school is partnering with you. The information provided will help guide the state’s efforts in improving special education and related services in public schools.
Parents/caregivers have the option of returning the survey in the MSDE pre-paid postage envelope or responding to the survey online.
The survey is anonymous. Parents are asked to complete a separate survey for each child receiving services. Parents are asked to complete the survey by Friday, May 30.
MCPS Student Transition Day - New Next Year
Save the Date: Aug. 25, 2025—Student Transition Day
Scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, Student Transition Day is a new non-instructional full day designed to support students transitioning to new school levels or schools by fostering a sense of belonging and preparedness.
This full day will welcome students entering kindergarten, Grade 6 and Grade 9, and those new to MCPS schools, ensuring that they receive a positive first experience with staff and other students. Interested in Volunteering at FVES?
Parent and caregiver volunteers support the overall success of Flower Valley. We welcome volunteers and are truly grateful for the ways you support our school each and every day. Some volunteer opportunities include serving as a mystery reader in class, sharing information about your career or hobby via a class presentation or visit, supporting lunch and recess, chaperoning field trips, supporting in-school events, and so much more! If any of our families have a speciality in coaching or soccer, we would also welcome your support with our students during their recess soccer games.
If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please see the information below and contact Mrs. Atanda at Jennifer_T_Atanda@mcpsmd.org. Volunteer clearance lasts for 3 years. Many volunteers who completed the training upon returning to in person learning three years ago need to complete the training again.
