Zebra Nation,
The first full week of November is upon us. Busy month ahead! The 2nd Quarter will move right along - three and a half weeks to the Thanksgiving break. No school for students on Tuesday as the District has PD Day on Election Day. Scholars, make sure that you have a clear understanding of the 2nd Quarter timeline. Have a question? Please ask your teacher(s). Also, please make sure to check out the 'Important November 2nd Quarter Dates' below.
National Honor Society (NHS) - FYI. The Faculty Council will be meeting on November 6th to review NHS applications. Students will be notified by November 8th via school email if they are going to be accepted into the organization. Cool Classrooms
A plethora of cool things are happening in English/Language Arts classrooms.
November is National Novel Writing Month, and our Creative Writing classes are participating in NaNoWriMo. Students are committing to word count goals and crafting synopses of the stories they will write throughout the next month. Stay tuned for a future update on their progress after NaNoWriMo has passed.
Mr. Taylor is leading book tastings in the library for ELA classes. While students may experience similar activities through lit circles in their classrooms, the library offers a significantly larger selection of texts for students to sample. Our new media specialist is excited to bring book tasting activities to all of our students.
Accelerated ELA 10 students are recording podcasts. After analyzing the podcast Serial (season one), which covers the court case of Adnan Sayed, students research wrongful convictions and present the argument for why there was not enough evidence to convict. Through their podcasts, students critically examine the justice system and failures thereof.
