Retired Teachers Visited HES!
On Monday, we welcomed back a few teachers who taught in our building and district for a tour. It's always great to reconnect and share stories with teachers who dedicated so many years to our district and building!
Student Attendance & Truancy
When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction that is needed to develop basic skills. Children in early grades are particularly susceptible to falling behind in fundamental reading skills, which can have a snowball effect that impacts future learning.
A parent or other person in parental relation who fails to comply with the Michigan Compulsory School Law (§ 380.1561) is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not less than $5.00 nor more than $50.00, or imprisonment for not less than 2 nor more than 90 days, or both.
Parents will be notified in writing when a student has accumulated 5 unexcused absences. If a student accumulates 7 unexcused absences, parents will be contacted and a meeting may be scheduled. Continued contact with parents may occur as additional absences accumulate throughout the school year. If a student accumulates 10 unexcused absences a third letter will be sent home and the Allegan County Truancy Officer will be notified. These absences are accumulated per school year.
HES Pep Assembly! Thank you HHS Students for Helping!

Student Handbook Updates
For the 2024-2025 school year, Hopkins Elementary School and Sycamore Elementary School revamped their handbooks. Earlier in August, the Hopkins Board of Education approved the changes. You can view the handbook here: https://www.hpsvikings.org/wp-content/uploads/24-25-Elementary-Handbook.pdf
A couple changes of note:
