October 2024
Message from the Principal
Dear BEC Families,
We are excited to announce that this October, we will be honoring our hardworking custodial staff. This dedicated group of individuals plays a vital role in keeping our school clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
From cleaning bathrooms to mopping floors, our custodians work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our school is a comfortable and hygienic environment. Their dedication to their work is truly commendable, and we appreciate everything they do to make our school a special place for our students.
We encourage you to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the efforts of our custodial staff. Their hard work and commitment to our school community are invaluable.
Thank you to:

Recycling Lids for a Picnic Table
We are so excited to announce that we have partnered with the GREEN TREE PLASTIC
COMPANY to save our planet and help reduce our carbon footprint. We are collecting plastic lids of 8 inches or less to help us reach our goal of 550 lbs of plastic lids/pill bottles to make an ADA accessible picnic bench for our beautiful new playground area.
We would love your help in making this mission possible. I have attached a slideshow of what
lids/pill bottles are acceptable for us to collect. If you would like to participate please send in
your CLEAN lids and EMPTY, WASHED, AND STICKER FREE pill bottles to add to our already growing collection here at Barfield.
We have collected 230 lbs of lids and pill bottles since April 2023. Way to go! We are looking for plastic recycle numbers 2, 4, 5 and free of all paper! Below is a picture of the bench we are working towards purchasing.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to ShelbyCohen@wsdr4.org. I look forward to seeing everyone’s CLEAN lids/ pill bottles, so we can help make the world a much cleaner place!
Reminder of Child Car Safety
To ensure the safety of all our children, please remember to keep your child securely buckled in a car seat or booster seat whenever the car is in motion. Even short trips can be dangerous if children are not properly restrained.
When dropping off or picking up your child:
- If you are at the front of the line, please pull all the way up to the start of the sidewalk before getting out of your car. This allows us to efficiently move the line and get all children to their cars quickly.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient carpool process.
