The State Support Team 1 Newsletter for Busy Educators
What We Do and Who We Serve
State Support Team Region 1 (SST 1) staff are part of Ohio's Statewide System of Support which also includes the Department of Education & Workforce, Educational Service Centers, Information Technology Centers, and professional associations and organizations. We work closely with these agencies to provide resources, coaching, professional development, and technical assistance to public and community school educators as they strive to ensure each child in Ohio has access to a high-quality education.
Ohio's Priority Areas are: Literacy, Accelerating Learning, Workforce Readiness and Student Wellness. Within these priorities we focus on Attendance & Chronic Absenteeism, Career Readiness/Technical Education, Continuous School Improvement/Ohio Improvement Process, Diverse Learners/Special Education, Early Learning, Family & Community Engagement, Graduation & Post Secondary Transition, High Quality Instruction for All Learners, Literacy, PBIS & Social Emotional Learning.
SST 1 provides support to educators in 13 northwest Ohio counties, including: Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood, and part of Seneca county.
Region 1 includes:
- 108 districts and community schools
- six educational service centers
- five career technical education centers (JVSD's)
- 12 boards of developmental disabilities

We send out a monthly eBrief newsletter that goes to all educators with relevant resources, timely news and announcements, and upcoming professional learning opportunities. Level Up with Literacy newsletter is sent out quarterly to keep you up to date on literacy topics, certifications, legislation, Dyslexia and much more. Also, coming this fall we will be adding a second quarterly newsletter focused on graduation/career pathways and transition.

Do you have questions about a certain topic or initiative, need access to the Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities or another state manual? We have it on our website. If you don't find what you are looking for contact Lisa Jenkins for help. You will also find our Professional Development Calendar and have access to sign up for PD sessions. Our yearly professional development calendar is coming out soon. We are bringing Dr. Paul Riccomini back for a three day series on Retention Strategies in the Math Classroom. Dr. Marguerethe Jaede is also coming back to do a four day seminar on Adaptive Schools. In addition to the PD sessions, we will also have networking sessions and book studies.
