September 2024
From the Principal
Dear Hoover Families,
I hope this message finds you well! It's hard to believe we've already kicked off another school year, but what an amazing start it has been! From the first day of school, the energy and enthusiasm in our classrooms and hallways has been truly inspiring. We are thrilled to have our students back, ready to learn and grow!
As we move forward with the school year, we are committed to maintaining this positive momentum. Our dedicated teachers and staff are working hard to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and excited to come to school each and every day.
Your partnership is essential to the success of our school community! I encourage you to stay involved, whether that's through attending events, participating in parent-teacher conferences, or simply staying in touch with your child's teacher. Together, we can ensure that this year is a rewarding and successful one for all of our students.
Next Wednesday, September 11th, is our first Popcorn Wednesday! Our PTO provides popcorn to students free of charge during their lunch recess. If you would like to donate to these popcorn events, you can either send money with your student, volunteer to make / hand-out popcorn, or use the QR code on the PTO's web page. Popcorn Wednesdays will take place two times each month.
Want to learn more about the happenings at Hoover? Join myself and Mr. Schulz, for Pastries with the Principals, taking place Wednesday, September 18th from 8:00 - 9:00 in the Media Center. Our conversational focus will be on Safety, our ELA curriculum, After School Activities, the FundDRun, VIMS, SEL, and Dismissal. And there will be coffee and pastries! Come with your questions!
Just a reminder that Wednesday, September 25th from 5:00 - 6:30 will be our Back to School Night. Families will get the opportunity to engage in the classroom community and learn more about student expectations, both academically and as a Hoover community member. I truly hope you can join us!
Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us with your child's education. I look forward to all the wonderful things we will accomplish this year! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Sincerely,
Sandy Holman, Principal

Official MSD Volunteer Application
For student safety, all volunteers must complete an application and pass a background check. VIM status is valid for two years. For questions specifically about the Official MSD Volunteer Application, becoming a VIM (Volunteer in Medford), or checking your expiration date, please visit the Hoover Office, call 541-842-3750, or email Hoover@medford.k12.or.us
CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS AT HOOVER
Please do not send cupcakes or other birthday treats to school with your student. In order to make sure we maintain equity, we celebrate everyone at one time each month. Thank you for your understanding about this issue.
Every month we have a special birthday cupcake celebration for all students with birthdays for the month. In May, we also celebrate June birthdays and in September, we celebrate July and August as well.
If your student has invitations for a birthday party, we ask that they are not handed out in class unless the whole class is invited. Otherwise, your student will need to hand them out after school. Thank you again for your understanding.
Talented and Gifted Student Information
Medford District 549c schools are always in the process of identifying students who are academically talented and/or intellectually gifted. Previously identified TAG students remain identified and their services will continue as needed. Students may be nominated for the Talented and Gifted Program (TAG) by the following: national or state test scores, district achievement tests (i-Ready), a teacher, parents, community members, or by self-nomination. After nominations are complete, information will be gathered and a screening committee will screen each student. Students and parents/guardians will be contacted if additional testing is needed. If you wish to obtain information on this program or you have any questions, please contact AJ Schultz from Hoover elementary at 541-842-1870], or Hunter Emery, the district Talented and Gifted Specialist at 541-842-1043.
Publicity Denial 2024-25
Medford School District staff often take photos and videos of students during field trips, school events, sports activities, performances and during classroom instruction to share the work and accomplishments of students. Those accomplishments are shared through the district
website, social media, print publications, fliers, and brochures. The district also works with local news media to promote student work, as well as district projects and initiatives.
If you do not want your student’s image to be published, please visit your school office to fill out a Publicity Denial form. We will make every effort to protect the privacy of your students.
Please note the district cannot guarantee a student’s image will not be published if the student is photographed/videotaped in a large group or crowd setting, such as school assemblies, sports events, and public meetings.
Please contact the Communications Department at msd.communications@medford.k12.or.us with any questions.
Arrival and Dismissal
The safety of your child(ren) is of utmost importance to Hoover. Arrival and dismissal are the most hectic times of the day, so I wanted to make you aware of some systems that are in place at our school.
Morning Choice
Students may get breakfast in cafeteria, walk the track, or wait on their line-up line on the blacktop prior to 7:50 AM
Curbside pullout directly in front of the school on Siskiyou Blvd.-- this is a BUS ONLY area from 7:00 - 8:00 AM and again from 1:45 - 2:45 PM (12:15- 1:15 on Wednesdays).
Please see Parent Vue on our Hoover website to see which bus your student rides.
Car—Two main drop-off/pick-up areas
West side parking lot near the gym—this will be open to car traffic for drop off from 7:20 AM – 7:55 AM. Pick-up is open after 2:20 PM (12:45 PM on Wednesdays), and is dedicated to students Grades K-3 and their siblings.
Along S. Modoc Avenue—Trails are cut along the back fence line of our school for student travel and a safety monitor is assigned to that area. For pick-up, this car line is dedicated to students Grades 3-5 and their siblings.
Walking—Crossing guards locations
Across Siskiyou Blvd., S. Modoc Ave., and at Dellwood and Black Oak (PM)
Parent Walk Up—Front Entrance of School
If you are picking up your student out in front of the school, let our safety monitor know your student’s name and teacher, and your student will be directed to meet you outside. Kinder parents can pick-up from their teacher in front of the school.
***If you change a meeting spot for your child, please let the teacher and front office know so we can make sure your child gets to the correct place!
Parking on and around our campus is limited. This is especially the case during special events. In addition to our parking lots, there is parking available along the side streets and in the Community of Christ parking lot across the street. Please be respectful and do not block the neighborhood driveways. Parking in bike lanes is strictly prohibited. This is a city ordinance and not within the control of Hoover or the Medford School District.
School Supplies
Free School Meals!
Both breakfast and lunch are offered at no charge to students for the upcoming school year. You are welcome to send your student with a lunch as well.
