Volunteer Appreciation Lunch
At Moran Prairie, we are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers. Our volunteers help in the classroom, help with special projects, help at events, attend field trips, and so much more. On Tuesday April 16th, we are celebrating all their work with our annual Volunteer Appreciation Lunch! See the flyer for details and please RSVP if you plan to attend so we can ensure we have enough food!
Note - there was an error on the previous invite that said the event was Monday. It is Tuesday April 16th!
Class Placement
Last night we held a special virtual PTG meeting for us to share information on our class placement process at Moran Prairie. For those were unable to attend, the information was recorded and can be viewed in the video below. In the presentation, I share:
- Our class placement timeline
- The priorities (such as academics, behavior/social skills, etc.) we follow K-5 to place students in classrooms and create the most balanced classes we can
- Our collaborative process for placing students aligned with our priorities
- What happens over the summer and how families are notified of their child's placement
At Moran Prairie, we believe that in order to best serve the needs of all our students we must build balanced and equitable class lists. We also believe that our teachers hold the most up-to-date knowledge of their current students to make safe, trustworthy, expert decisions on the most appropriate class placement for the following school year.
We are intentional and thoughtful in our placement of students for the next school year. If families feel they have a unique situation to share and would like to provide input, they may do so using the family input form. Please know that this form is not a request or non-request form. Rather, it is for special and unique cases in which a family feels more information about their child's learning needs and strengths would be helpful. The vast majority, probably over 95% of them, do not do this; this is for those special cases. The presentation shares more about this.
- This form will be available in the office beginning Monday April 8th for parents to pick up or request.
- It is due Friday April 26th (the presentation has last year's date on it). We do not accept past this date as we begin the process with teachers with all the information provided.
- You also do not need the form if it's just a quick email to myself or to Mrs. Lorimer!
Counselor Corner
Our 5th Grade Career Fair field trip was a huge success! Students were able to ask questions about potential career paths and explore numerous opportunities available in their future. Thanks to all of the volunteer presenters and chaperones for making the event possible.
