FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
I am absolutely thrilled to express my heartfelt gratitude to our entire Edison Community for an AMAZING Fall Festival! This event was a remarkable testament to our shared commitment to fostering a vibrant, culturally rich, and family-centered environment for our students.
A big thank you to our dedicated teachers who worked extremely hard balancing their teaching responsibilities, preparing for conferences, celebrating Halloween with enthusiasm, while preparing student artwork for the altars. Our entire staff adjusted to the challenges with the cafeteria being off limits, the schedule changing, lots of parents on campus, and the kids beyond excited.
A huge shoutout to our PTA, especially special events coordinator Irene Guerrero for their hard work and dedication that made this year's festival such a success. Their hard work in planning, organizing, and executing this event was nothing short of extraordinary. Special thanks to executive VP Judy Tobar Lerner for organizing the Altar Open House, to Christie Reardon for coordinating the room reps and high school volunteers, and to Heidi Aimonetti Vega and Judy Tobar Lerner for creating a stunning Alfombra de Acerrín. Thanks also to Eva Cartagena and Otto Scheuren for promoting the event, our wonderful MC Kevin Kauffman for keeping everything flowing smoothly, and our PTA president, Kim Bartholomew, for ensuring everything was taken care of. We are also grateful to the many 5th-grade parents who provided delicious treats and drinks. And let’s not forget our amazing volunteers—parents, grandparents, and former immersion students—who came together to ensure the festival was an incredible success! Even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits; we embraced it and enjoyed even more coffee and treats from our dedicated 5th-grade parents!
I’m excited to share that, in addition to bringing our community together for fun and good times, we raised more money than ever before! These funds will go directly toward enriching our school and providing the best possible experiences for our students.
As we wrap up this incredible event, we would greatly appreciate a few extra hands on Monday morning at 8:30-11:00 am to help take down the stage, dismantle the tents, and carefully store the altars for next year. Any time you can spare would be immensely appreciated!
I can’t wait to see how our wonderful community continues to build an inspiring environment for our students to learn and thrive!
With heartfelt gratitude and excitement,
Directora Ipiña
SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Please note that we will have schedule changes this week to allow for parent/teacher conferences. Make sure to have arrangements for your child on Tuesday and pick up your child on time Wednesday-Friday.
- Monday, Nov 4- Regular Day
- Tuesday, Nov 5 - Pupil Free Day (no school for students)
- Wednesday, Nov 6 - Minimum Day
- Thursday, Nov 7 - Minimum Day
- Friday, Nov. 8 - Minimum Day
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place this week - November 5th-8th. See below for details.
SCHEDULE
If you have not signed up for a conference, contact your child's teacher right away. Conferences usually last about 20 minutes. Please note that November 5th is a pupil free day so your child will not be attending school. Nov 6-8 will be minimum days to allow the teacher more time to meet with parents after school. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLANS FOR YOUR CHILD DURING THESE DAYS.
PREPARING FOR CONFERENCE
Keep in mind that the conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect with the teacher and form a TEAM for the benefit of your child. Remember that you and the teacher have the same goal - your child's success in school! Before coming to the conference, talk to your child about how school is going, look at their work and their scores, and write down any questions you have.
DURING THE CONFERENCE
Arrive on time! The schedule is very tight and the teacher will most likely not be able to extend your time if you are late. Students do not usually attend the conference. The teacher will begin the conference sharing information about how your child is doing at school. They may answer your questions. Once they finish sharing, you can ask any questions that were not answered or share information about your child that would be helpful for the teacher to know.
ENDING THE CONFERENCE
You and the teacher will make a plan for how to ensure your child is successful going forward. This may include continuing with everything you are currently doing because it is working well, or it may include some changes.
TALKING TO YOUR CHILD AFTER
When you go home to talk to your child, it is important to stay positive because we want your child to a have a positive attitude towards school and learning. First, share anything positive you can and then share one area of growth. Share the plan going forward and how you will be supporting them.
Wednesday Parent Meetings
Each Wednesday, from 8:30-10:00 am, we have parent meetings in the Library. All parents are invited. Meetings are bilingual and there is a Zoom option at this link (although in person attendance is recommended).
This week we will be hosting Coffee with the Principal and Experts. Our expert this week will be Aileen Salmaggi, former 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade immersion teacher, literacy coach, and current Spanish Reading Teacher and English Learner Expert. She will present on how to support READING at home.
Title I Parent Informational Meeting
As a Title I School, we receive Federal funding to support our school. As part of our responsibility in receiving this funding, we are required to hold two informational sessions to explain more about this funding and what we are doing with it. There will be two opportunities to learn more about Title I this week:
- Tuesday, November 5th, 6pm in Zoom
- Wednesday, November 6th, 8:30 am in the Library (during Coffee with the principal)
If you would like to know more about this, please attend one of these meetings.
PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
¡Mil Gracias!
The PTA would like to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our parent volunteers who helped make this year's Fall Festival so amazing! Parents helped with art projects, paper flowers, setting up the altars, setting up the festival, working the booths, selling food and spirt wear, cleaning up, and so much more! We are so impressed with the hard work and willingness of our parent volunteers. We could not have done it without you and we are so very grateful!
We still need some help with cleaning up on Monday morning, 8:30-10:00 am. We need to put away the tents, the stage, and carefully take down the altars and pack things away to use for next year. Please come by and help!
