Principal Updates
Good Afternoon,
I couldn't be prouder of the remarkable effort I've seen from our students and staff this year. Dixie's students and staff's hard work and commitment are truly shining through in the wonderful progress being made in classrooms every day.
A special shout-out to our fantastic special area teachers for the unforgettable Multicultural Night! The joy and celebration of the diverse cultures within our Dixie family were truly heartwarming and a testament to their dedication.
As we look forward to a well-deserved Spring Break, let's also keep our 3rd-5th graders in mind as they prepare for their MAP testing. I have no doubt that with the continued dedication of our entire Dixie community, we will finish this year with great success!
Sincerely,
Brittany Phillips, Principal

It was a joy to see so many families come together, connecting and celebrating the unique and wonderful tapestry that makes Dixie Elementary such a special place.
MAP Testing Schedule for 3rd-5th Grade
Dance Blue- Mini Marathon
We are thrilled to announce that Dixie will be hosting a Dance Blue Mini Marathon on April 18th! Our students will be participating in a variety of fun activities throughout the day to raise funds and awareness for Dance Blue, an organization that supports pediatric cancer research and the families affected by this disease at the University of Kentucky Children's Hospital.
One of our exciting initiatives will be a school-wide Penny War, where each house will compete to bring in the most donations. This friendly competition not only encourages giving but also fosters a sense of teamwork and school spirit, all while contributing to a vital cause. We are so proud of our students' enthusiasm to support Dance Blue and make a real difference in the lives of children and families in need.
Our students will be learning about this in their house meeting this Thursday!
We are excited to be part of Dance Blue!

LOST AND FOUND
Spring has sprung, bringing warmer weather! This has also resulted in many sweatshirts, sweaters, and jackets ending up in our lost and found. If you are missing items, please stop by our "overflowing" lost and found in the front hallway during school hours or after school during DEA until 6:00 PM each night.
Donations Needed!
Teacher's Conference Room
We are putting together a Teacher Snack Cart to show our appreciation for our amazing staff! This cart will be stocked with snacks and drinks that teachers can enjoy during meetings or throughout the school day as a little pick-me-up. We would love any donations to help keep it filled—items like chips, granola bars, candy, soda, coffee, and other treats are all appreciated! This is just a small way to remind our teachers how much we value and appreciate all they do. Donations can be dropped off at the front office. Thank you for your support!
REMINDER-Arrival and Dismissal- Safety Concerns
A few friendly reminders:
- Please do not let your students out of their cars until 7:15. There is not adult supervision until this time.
- It is a right turn only out of the parking lot during arrival and dismissal, we really need you to adhere to this for the safety of our students and staff.
- DO NOT let you student off by stopping on Eastland Parkway and having them run across the street. This is a HUGE safety concern, it is dark in the morning and hard to see small children running across the street.
- To enter the car lane in the morning and afternoon, we ask that you come down Eastland to turn right into our parking lot. We will not be able to allow left hand turns into the parking lot as this causes confusion in our flow of traffic.
Community Resources
For some families, this extended winter weather can present an added hardship. To help, Fayette County Public Schools has collected a list of available community resources that may be able to provide assistance.
Additionally, our Family Resource Center is available to help connect families with support. To speak with a team member, reach out to Mrs. Gettis via email (kasey.gettis@fayette.kyschools.us) or ClassDojo!

Absences/Tardy- Excused?
Two Steps to an Excused Absence!
If your child is absent, please call the school at 422-0010 before 7:30 am. Please know that even if you call in, you will still receive an automated call about your child's absence.
For an absence to be excused, it must be followed up with a written excuse within 3 days. FCPS Board Policy does not allow us to accept notes after this time and absences will remain unexcused. Remember, when you take your child to a doctor or dentist, get a note.
See all the details in the FCPS Code of Conduct.
What is an Excused Absence/Tardy?
- Death of an immediate family member
- Illness of Student: Parents have a total of 10 notes to write for students' illnesses. After 10 cumulative absences due to illness students are required to present a written statement from a medical professional for each additional absence for the school year in order to be excused.
- Religious Holidays & Practices
- Medical & Dental Appointments: Be sure to grab note from the doctor's office!
- Family Emergencies: limited to three cumulative absent events per school year, as approved by the Principal.
Looking to Volunteer?
Dixie loves to have volunteers helping throughout the school day, attending field trips, and helping out in the building. Any and all adults accompanying a school group while on a field trip must first undergo and pass the background checks required for all FCPS volunteers through the volunteer application system. This applies to listed chaperones, volunteers, and anyone who travels separately to join the group at the respective venue. If you plan on coming to help in the building or on a field trip at any point in the future when allowed you will need to complete the following background check: https://www.fcps.net/leaders-support/departments-offices/family-community-engagement/community-outreach-engagement/volunteering-in-fcps
Parents don't need to be approved to eat lunch with their child, attend parent/teacher conferences or attend evening events. All other activities will require you to be an approved volunteer. These background checks are good for three years.
PTA Information
Don't forget to join the PTA! They do so much to support DME each year, it is the least we can do. It is only $5 to join! https://dixie.givebacks.com/store/items/55668
Our goal is to get 130 members, once we reach our goal the PTA will be doing a drawing for a pair of free air pods!
