Sunday, March 9th. Twice a year, people in the United States change the time on their clocks and watches. In spring, they turn their clocks forward one hour. In fall, they turn them back one hour. The time change means that in spring people lose an hour and in fall they gain an hour. There is a saying to help us remember which way to turn our clocks: “Spring forward and fall back.” Most people change their clocks on Saturday evening before they go to bed. Then when they wake up on Sunday, their clocks are correct. Remember to change your clocks.

Testing Dates:

• Testing for CSIA's 5th grade students will take place during the week of May 19-23, 2025.

The STAMP 4SE Test:

• This series of assessments are specifically designed to be developmentally and linguistically appropriate for learners in world language, dual language immersion programs, or other school environments with learners aged 12 and younger.

What skills are tested?:

• The Avant STAMP 4Se will assess a student's receptive and productive skills. Students will complete tasks to assess skills in: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Aligned to proficiency standards:

• Avant's assessments utilize authentic texts and audio you would encounter in the real world such as signs, animals, and the weather. Avant proficiency tests are aligned to US proficiency standards.

Computer Adaptive Tests:

• Adaptive tests eliminate questions that are too easy or too difficult for each test taker allowing them to reach their highest level of proficiency. All Avant assessments are developed by professional target language and assessment experts.

The Community Music School (CMS) at The Ohio State University School of Music is excited to launch the NEW Infant Music Class — a music program specifically designed for Latinx families with children aged 0 to 36 months.

January begins the lottery season for Columbus City Schools. A few notes regarding the lottery process:

• Return to homeschool - all of our families will receive a notice about returning to homeschool. This comes each year to our families as we are a full lottery school. You have the option to return to your school of address. If you wish to stay at CSIA you do not need to do anything. The request will be available for submission beginning on January 6, 2025 and must be submitted via the School Choice link in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal by March 21, 2025.
• PreK families - You must apply through the lottery system to attend CSIA for kindergarten. On-time lottery applications accepted via the Parent Portal for the lottery draw, Monday, February 3, 2025 through Monday, March 31, 2025.

Ramadan is considered one of the holiest months of the year for Muslims. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islam calendar, a holy month designed for prayer and fasting. It begins and ends with the shape of the crescent moon, which is why Ramadan is not set on any specific day annually. In Ramadan, Muslims fast from food and drink during the sunlit hours as a means of drawing closer to God and cultivating self-control, gratitude, and compassion for those less fortunate. Ramadan is a month of intense spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion, during which Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers. Those unable to fast, such as pregnant or nursing women, the sick, or elderly people & children, are exempt from fasting.

Many Students (and staff) in school may be participating in fasting during this month. Please look for ways to support students and staff who are celebrating this holy month. More information and resources are available below.

The Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) is the state summative test that districts administer to students identified as English learners in grades K-12 to determine an English learner's progress to English language proficiency and readiness to exit from the English language development program.

All students entered with at least one pledge will be eligible for a Raffle to win a $25 Skate Zone 71 Gift Card – drawing will be help Wed. March 5th. The class with the highest percentage signed up by Friday with a pledge page will earn a snack break, sponsored by the PTO. 80% of what is earned goes back to our school.

Recently the students were divided into 15 different Animal Houses. We've also implemented monthly House Meetings in order to build a sense of belonging and ownership. PTO is holding a competition for the different Houses. Where each house will receive a gallon sized jug and the objective is to be the first House to fill their jug all the way up. The first House to fill their jug will win a pizza party!

We've separated the students into 15 different Houses in an effort to build our students and staff sense of belonging and ownership in our school. Every student and staff (minus a few staff to be available if needed) will participate in a 30 minute house meeting. During this meeting, all will work to get to know each other and have fun! This past week student's picked their houses (all houses are named using Spanish words for animals) and received a bracelet they will be able to take home at the end of the year. We will meet as a house family once per month.

If you're student is performing then they need to wear white tops, and black bottoms. Students must report to their classrooms by 5:45 PM, as teachers need to get students ready. Please keep your student’s coat with you. Audience members please arrive early, good seats go fast!

If your student brings in $1 on April 17th, they will get to Duct Tape a teacher to the wall during the school day as a part of a PTO Fundraiser. Students will get 1 piece of duct tape for every $1 they bring in. PTO funds pay for school events, class activities, teacher appreciation week, etc.

CCS students (ages 2-12), along with their caregivers are invited to engage in environmental service projects and activities that include: a book swap (families are encouraged to bring up to 3 gently used books per child to swap for different books), composting and recycling games, upcycled art, wildlife encounters, tree planting (over 300 trees will be available to plant), and so much more. The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) will host the third annual “We Grow Scientists” at Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory. This afternoon of hands-on learning and activities will showcase the many STEAM fields CFAES has to offer and will include a look at the Waterman facilities such as the Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex. “We Grow Scientists” is a free event open to learners of all ages looking to learn more about STEAM in their community as part of the COSI Science Festival (April 30 - May 3, 2025).

ARISE (ARTs through Intergenerational Social Engagement) is a five-week intergenerational program focused on storytelling through the fine arts. The ARISE Scholars Program will provide teens who are currently in grades 9-12 with the opportunity to earn service hours, to volunteer in the community, and to experience how the fine arts can be used as a tool for wellness. The central theme of ARISE is storytelling. Throughout the program, they will explore how theatre, music, dance, and the visual arts can help us share our stories with others. There is no cost to participate, although scholars will be responsible for their own transportation. Each student who completes the program will earn a $100 travel stipend. Questions? The PTO sponsors School Events, Class Activities, Teacher Appreciation Week, provides food for Parent Teacher Conferences and so much more. They have fundraisers throughout the year in order to pay for these events but are always accepting donations.

2. Recess Duty would mean reminding students to follow the rules, playing with students and ensuring all students are being safe while at recess.
