LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
We were so happy to welcome our students back to school following the extended holiday break!
Pre-K students continued the unit of study on gardening. They sorted vegetables by the parts they eat, created vegetable patterns, and measured vegetables using non-standard measurements (grown ups, you can help your little ones practice measuring items at home with nonstandard units like shoes, utensils, or legos)! Students planned, designed and drew their own gardens, practiced letter formation, sequencing and retelling stories. They also read books and sang songs about gardens including: The Surprise Garden, Can You Plant a Bean and The Vegetable Song.
In Kindergarten this week students practiced reading and writing short sentences with increased fluency. They used details to distinguish between fiction and non-fiction books and added these details to their "All About" writing pieces. In math, they worked to identify numbers 0-100, represent them with objects, solve addition and subtraction problems with concrete objects, and accurately count scattered items. You can reinforce these concepts using everyday items in your home (e.g. cereal, small crackers, pasta, pennies, etc.)! In Science, students learned that sunlight helps keep the Earth warm. Experiment at home by leaving ice cubes in shady and sunny areas to see which ones melt first!
We're looking forward to a wonderful Kindergarten Celebration next Friday (6/7). Students have been pouring their 💙s into rehearsals this week!

SCHOOL RELATED NEWS & EVENTS
KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION, 6/7
The Kindergarten Celebration will take place on Friday, June 7. Please refer to the invitation for class times. Advanced registration is required for all guests.
PROFESSIONAL VIDEO
The PTO has arranged for a professional videographer to capture each performance. Videos are available for purchase ($30) on the Membership Toolkit.
EARLY DISMISSAL FORM
Responses are due no later than Wed, 6/5...please, NO BACKPACKS if possible!
Following each Kindergarten Celebration performance, you will have the option to take family photos on the grassy field. It would be most helpful if students who are leaving early "pack light" - e.g. leave backpacks home, bring lunch and snacks in disposable bags. Students who are remaining in school for the full day are welcome to pack as they normally do.
In the interest of ensuring all students are safely accounted for, please tell us about your plans immediately following your child's performance. You will be asked to choose from one of the following options -
- Remain in School - Option A: I will not be taking family photos. My child will remain with their teacher for the duration of the school day.
- Remain in School - Option B: I will be taking family photos with my child. After our family photos, my child will return to their teacher/teacher's designee for the duration of the school day.
- Early Dismissal Option: I will be taking family photos with my child. My child will be leaving school with me after we take our photos.
JOIN THE PTO EXECUTIVE BOARD IN 2024-25
A Message from the Lincoln School PTO:
The PTO is a fun and rewarding way to be a vibrant part of our Lincoln family. No experience required! This is a great opportunity to get involved, to help make a great year for your Lincoln student, and to meet other parents!
We are gathering interest now for roles on the Lincoln PTO Executive Board for next year. The board meets once a month, either virtually or in person. Much of the work is done independently between meetings, and the time commitment required ebbs and flows through the year.
Committees and Class Parent volunteer sign-ups will be separately sent in the fall and are other opportunities to get involved.
Click below to see descriptions of Executive Board roles, and submit your interest now!
FAMILY RESOURCE OF THE WEEK
JUNE IS CARIBBEAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
Caribbean Heritage Month, celebrated in June, honors the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Caribbean people to the world. Rich literature serves as a powerful tool to celebrate different cultures by providing deeper insights and fostering understanding and appreciation of their unique stories and traditions.
