Comparison between V and Murrow
By: William Maltenieks
V’s purpose of his speech was to convince the people of london to stand by his side in going against the government.”But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me”. He uses a lot of historical events in his speech. He connects with the people by saying things they relate to. V wants to start a rebellion against the government because of their cruelty and injustice. He wishes for the people to be more educated of what their government's true motives are and to not live in fear. V suggest that the only way to change the way their country is, is by violence and rebellion. The purpose of Edward Murrow’s speech was to was to inform and persuade those that control what goes on our television to put something that educates and informs those watching about the world around them. He says that if we continue down the path we are going in that we will become “wealthy, fat, comfortable, and complacent”. He also says that we have “built an allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information” due to the way we distract and amuse the people during their free time. In both of these speeches they use history to make their case stronger making the audience's confidence toward them increase. They both want change and action against because people aren't getting involved and are just being comfortable with the way things are even though the people are being controlled on what information they receive. The differences in V’s speech are that he says that they have a choice in whether they want to support this change in society “So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you, then I would suggest that you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek...then I ask you to stand beside me, one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament. And together, we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever, be forgot!”. His speech is also about government being corrupted which Murrow's is not. The differences in Murrow's speech are that he speaks about being lazy, uneducated, and that we have to make right choices about social issues. In his speech hiss action are more of a peaceful approach. He is speaking to those who watch television and the ones that make what is on television while saying what is on it is corrupting people.
