Cascade Middle School

Book rental was due by end of the day on 9/24/21 or signed payment plan with initial 25% down to avoid collections! Parents can pay with a card online through PowerSchool by logging in and looking for "Balance" on the left hand side. That will take you to the screen where you can pay. We accept cash, checks, and money orders. An updated statement will be sent home once payment is received.

There will be a call-out meeting for parents of current 7th and 8th graders interested in going on the Washington D.C. trip on Tuesday, September 28th at 5:30 in room 140 of the middle school. This trip is offered every two years. If you cannot attend your student can still sign up for the trip. Students received this flyer which highlights the important information about the trip and includes information on how to register. This is a great opportunity for students to see many different artifacts, places, and monuments connected to people we study in 8th-grade social studies.

These students were all caught being KIND this week! Dominic stayed after class to help his teacher clean and straighten up her room. Alejandro allows all of the other students to leave 6th period before he does. Hailey makes her ELA teacher feel great by always greeting her with a smile each morning. Tori brought in pencils to her Science class to donate to students who may forget theirs. Jon also brought in supplies for other students to be able to use! Each day this week Julian was helping one of his teachers clean up her classroom after lunch before the next classes started. Jordon brought in Jolly Ranchers to restock his teacher's classroom supply. He also brought in extra school supplies and gave them to other teachers.

We are excited to introduce Mrs. Shellie Clampitt as a new Instructional Assistant to Cascade Middle School. She brings several years of experience working with kids of all ages to our school and also she has the heart of a mom! Our students are already benefitting from her support and assistance.

Last week was or first Monday to visit the Lakeland Center to work with their horses! A select group of students will be visiting the farm each of the following five Mondays. While there we will complete a series of lessons involving the animals and have a lot of fun while we are at it!

We took a group of Cascade middle school students to Camp Tecumseh for a two day camping trip. They learned about 5 important foundations: communicating, trust, problem-solving, leadership, and self-confidence. We had a great time working with these outstanding students and we are excited to see the ways they will contribute to our school with their new found skills!!!

Just a few reminders about our return to instruction protocols:

• Masks are optional (strongly recommended for anyone who is not fully vaccinated for COVID) for students and staff in the school building
• Masks are required for anyone riding a school bus (this is a federal mandate)
• Students are encouraged to continue using hand sanitizer and washing hands frequently
• Students who are experiencing COVID symptoms should stay home
• Students who are determined to be a close contact with a positive COVID case will only need to quarantine if they are symptomatic. Students showing no symptoms may remain at school
• COVID vaccinations are available for free for ages 12+ and are strongly recommended by county, state, and federal health officials
• Our school protocols can change at any time during the school year based on the trajectory of COVID positive cases and guidance from county, state, and federal health officials

We have become part of a disturbing and quite frankly disgusting nationwide trend. There is a TikTok challenge where students record themselves causing deliberate destruction to their school (usually in the bathrooms) and posting the videos to the app. We have seen this vandalism occur in both our male and female restrooms. Students who are caught vandalizing school property will face school discipline as well as monetary compensation for the damaged items and possibly criminal charges. After one week of locked restrooms and staff supervision, there was no more vandalism to the restrooms. We will continue with these procedures until Fall Break.

Parents - Please be on the lookout for other disturbing challenges that may impact your students while using these apps. The top 2 apps that cause the most issues at school are TikTok and Snapchat.

With the new locker policy in action the number of open lockers in the halls dropped dramatically. Only six lockers were left open throughout the week. The materials in those lockers were placed in Deputy Faith's office for safe keeping and were retrieved by the students later in the day. We will continue this policy until all students are regularly locking their lockers after each visit.

The CMS PTO typically meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the CMS Cafeteria. Our next meeting this year will be Monday 10/18.

Please continue sending in Box Tops! The money raised goes directly to our school. There is now a Box Tops app that you can use to submit them digitally. Soon all Box Tops will only be available through the scanned receipt.

Through Coca-Cola Give, you can support CMS by donating your codes. Any Coca-Cola beverage that has a product code under its cap or printed on its paper packaging is eligible to be used for donation. Please reference this list of participating brands. Just send your eligible caps or paper packaging showing the product codes into the CMS front office, and a PTO representative will make sure your donated codes are entered.

The USDA has extended the waiver for school meal programs. As a result, students will be able to purchase the standard breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE each day through 7/30/22.

Our Kindness Wall is still live and able to be updated over the summer! Give it a try! Anyone can provide someone else with a note of kindness and positivity. All messages are reviewed by Mr. Blickenstaff prior to approval to the wall. The link above let's you see the wall and make a post at the same time.
