Greetings North Wales Families,

We would like to thank all of our parent volunteers and home and school association for another successful book fair! We had a lot of great books to choose from. I added a few to my collection that I plan to read to the students as a mystery reader.

We kicked off our school wide reading incentive program on Friday with DEAR ( Drop Everything And Read) We are excited to launch our School Wide Reading Incentive Program.

Second trimester report cards will be available to parents on the parent portal of Infinite Campus. Tuesday March 28th

We are kicking off spring break with a food truck for staff this Friday, March 31st. If you would like to stop by and purchase lunch from Scratch's Food Truck between 10:30-1:30pm, the menu and ordering link is posted below. You must pre-order. We are taking orders until Wednesday, March 29th before 5pm.

North Wales Elementary School challenges themselves to read before they spend time on the screen.

Here is your mission…

North Wales will read 70,000 pages from Friday, March 24 through Friday, April 28, 2023.

Students will have a goal to read or be read to for 20 minutes per day. When a book is completed, record the number of pages and have a parent sign the recording slip. Each grade level will try to “LEVEL UP” by meeting goals along the way. As reading goals are met, your race car will progress along the track! Check the board to see how your grade level is performing.

Don’t forget…When you finish a book, record it on a slip and turn it in to your teacher.

   North Wales Elementary 6th Grade Burger Fundraiser Order Form

   The Cannoneers Club in Lansdale has graciously offered to host a burger fundraiser for the 6th grade! Date: Sunday, April 30, 2023 Time: 12 noon-5pm (Dine in or Take out) Place: Canoneers Sportsmens Club 501 W. Fifth Street Lansdale, PA 19446 Cost: $10 per meal (includes hamburger or cheeseburger made to order, fries or chips and a drink (soda or water)). A fixin's bar will also be available for additional toppings 100% of all sales will go towards the 6th grade end-of-year party. Women's History Highlight

Kitty Linn O'Neil was an American stuntwoman and racer, given the title as "the fastest woman in the world". An illness in early childhood left her deaf, and more illnesses in early adulthood cut short a career in competitive diving. Kitty Linn O’Neil was born on March 24, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Tex. She was a few months old when a high fever caused by measles, mumps and smallpox destroyed nerves and led to her deafness. Her mother, Patsy (Compton) O’Neil, opened a school for the hearing-impaired after teaching Kitty to lip-read rather than use sign language.

In 1979 she was the subject of a made-for-television movie, “Silent Victory: The Kitty O’Neil Story,” with Stockard Channing in the title role. In his review for The Associated Press, Peter Boyer praised it for being a “strong personal drama” that did not become a “freak show with lots of wrecked cars.”

Ms. O’Neil continued to race and perform stunts for films like “Smokey and the Bandit II” and “The Blues Brothers” until her retirement in the early 1980s.

Passover - April 5th-13th

Passover (also known as Pesach) has been an integral part of the Jewish faith for centuries, as a celebration of when the Jewish people were freed from slavery in Egypt.

On the first two nights of Passover (just the first night in Israel), a Seder is held. After candles have been lit, families enjoy a ritual-rich 15-step feast, which centers around telling the story of the Exodus.

Easter- April 9th

Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans.

We have seen a growing number of students using electronic devices and sending/receiving text messages throughout the day, which has disrupted the learning environment. Please note, cell phones should be in silent mode or turned off and stored in bookbags throughout the day. Smartwatches should not be used to make calls, send messages, or take photos/videos during the school day. Also, note the school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal electronic devices. Our school team will be reminding our students of these expectations regarding personal devices.

We thank all of our families for their continued support and cooperation in limiting disruptions to the classroom.

On April 7th, 2023, the Dental Hygiene Kids Clinic at Montgomery County Community College will provide a free dental exam, teeth cleaning, x-rays, sealants, and fluoride treatment for ages 1-17 from 8am-12pm & 1pm-5:00pm. To schedule an appointment, please call 215-641-6483 or sign up through their website mc3.edu/dental-clinic by March 10, 2023. They ask that a parent chaperone the student during the appointment and also complete the dental/ medical history packet. For additional information regarding their program at Montgomery County Community College, please click on the following attachments. During arrival and dismissal, please remember that our primary concern is SAFETY. Our school staff is on the grounds to assist with the arrival and dismissal process. Please follow their directions, and above all else, be PATIENT. The loading and unloading area along Fourth Street is congested during arrival and dismissal and it is important that you travel slowly, watch for cars and model safe and responsible behavior.
