Everything in the Middle School that MATTERS
August 16, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Greetings Monticello Middle School Families,
We are very excited to kick-off the 2024-25 school year and have students back in the building again. We are looking forward to welcoming all students and families at our Back-to-School Day August 29.
We have a few changes this year. The biggest change will be in our daily schedule. Our student day starts at 8:15 am. Our new schedule along with other important information is included in this Welcome Back newsletter.
Please take your time and look through all the specifics regarding our Welcome Back Day. There are several action items we are asking families to do prior to the school year.
All families will receive an email from Monticello Middle School. In this communication students will be informed about their assigned teaching team and advisor. Families will need to know that information to sign up for a time at our Back to School Day August 29th. Please use the links provided to sign up for a time to meet your advisor. It is at this meeting where students receive their daily schedule.
Please complete the transportation form from Hoglund Transportation. Families should have received this communication from Hoglund Transportation last week.
Please complete the Annual Update regarding your child’s contact information.

- Even if you do not have updates, it is important to complete the process and verify your information.

NOTE FROM THE STUDENT CENTER
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE
If your student will be late or absent, families can notify the school in two ways:
online attendance (through Parent/Guardian Portal)
call the Attendance Line at 763-272-2110.
If your student needs to leave early, families can notify the school in three ways:
online attendance (through Parent/Guardian Portal)
call the attendance line
send a note with your student to the Student Center
Prior notice (minimum of one hour) expedites the process, avoids interruptions into classrooms to have students dismissed, and eliminates difficulty reaching students during phy-ed, music, lunch, and special events.
Homework Request: If your student is gone two or more consecutive days, you may also use the online attendance (comment section) or attendance line to request homework.
STUDENT DROP-OFF PROCEDURE

Please use the designated drop-off stations on Washington Street and at the east end of the building when dropping your child off in the morning. Please stay out of our bus loading area in front of the building. Those using the east drop-off will need to enter the parking lot off Broadway (by the School Sign).
📌Keeping the loading zone safe is our priority.

Student Nutrition Back to School Bulletin
On March 17, 2023, Governor Walz signed the MN Free School Meals bill into law. The MN Free School Meals Program is a permanent program that provides funding so that all students can have one breakfast and one lunch at no cost at school.
Even so, it is important for families to complete the Application for Educational Benefits. Applications for Educational Benefits determine how much funding your child’s school receives for educational programs and supports. Additionally, eligible families can qualify for other benefits, such as:
- Free or reduced athletic or activity fees within the district
- WIC Benefits
- Metro Transits’ Transit Assistance Program
- FCC Affordable Connectivity Program/Reduced price internet programs
- Some summer camps, athletics programs and/or child cares offer scholarships or discounts.
Please help the district reach our goal of 100% completed forms. A student's eligibility status helps generate other funds provided by the State.

NOTES FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
INCOMING 7TH GRADERS
Dear Parents/Guardians of Incoming 7th graders,
Upon entry into 7th grade, the following immunizations are required by MN law:
-An adult dose of Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis (TdaP) after age 11
-Meningococcal
If your child has already had these immunizations, they do not need to repeat them. If you wish to declare a non-medical exemption or conscientious objection (CO) or a medical exemption (ME), the link to print the student immunization form can be found below (this form must be notarized)
https://www.health.state.mn.us/people/immunize/basics/imzform.pdf
To find your child’s most up-to-date immunization records please go to the following link: https://www.health.state.mn.us/people/immunize/miic/records.html#docket
Please schedule an appointment with your child’s doctor if they are in need of immunizations. If your child is planning on playing a school sport in 7th grade, they will also need a sports physical. Please either send the updated immunization record with your child to school or have the clinic fax us your child’s immunization record to (763) 272-2109 once your child receives these immunizations. Please call the health office at 763-272-2120/2121 for any questions or concerns. Your assistance with this process is greatly appreciated!
