Safety from Stubbs: School Zones & Traffic
There are times when a law, especially those regarding school zones, causes a little inconvenience, and many question why it should be enforced. Many of you may see me standing on Bank Street or 9th Street at the end of most school days wearing an eye-catching fluorescent yellow vest stopping vehicles from driving the wrong way so they can pass other vehicles. Why does it even matter?
· When a student crosses the street, the vehicle in the right lane blocks the student’s view of any vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road, and the driver of the vehicle does not have a clear view of the student until they stepped out in front of the vehicle.
· Not all vehicles waiting at the stop sign at Bank Street and 9th Street turn west onto 9th Street once it is their turn to proceed. If they try to go east or straight as a vehicle from behind them gets to the stop sign, there could be an accident.
· If there is a vehicle attempting to turn north onto Bank Street from 9th Street and there is a vehicle in the left and right lane of Bank Street, there could also be an accident.
· Not all students get in on the passenger side of the car. Any vehicle driving by as a student is getting in on the driver’s side, could hit the student.
· On 9th Street, there is always a teacher helping vehicles exit onto 9th street from the gravel pick-up area. If a vehicle is driving west in the left lane on 9th and a vehicle turns onto 9th Street from Kirkman, there could either be an accident and either vehicle may swerve into the eastbound lane and hit the teacher.
My main reason for being at St. Louis Catholic is to protect everyone who is on this campus. I do not stand in the roadway after school because I want to exert power over anyone, or because I want to show off my yellow vest, I am out there because I care about my students and my faculty.
Everyday is a great day to be a Saint,
Officer Stubbs
LA R.S. 32:77.1, School Zones; No Passing Zones
A. The driver of a vehicle upon a two-lane highway or street shall not overtake and pass another vehicle during posted hours within a school zone.

ACADEMICS
March 31 - April 4
ACT Testing for Juniors - Wednesday, April 16
To assist students as they prepare for college and careers, St. Louis Catholic will administer the ACT to our high school Juniors. Testing will be on Wednesday, April 16 during the school day at a reduced cost to families. We will be using the computer-based test for our students as there is evidence that allowing students to take a standardized test in the same format used by students on a daily basis will lead to an increased score. Even if a student has previously tested and made an adequate score for college admission, taking the test in a familiar environment and using a format they are most comfortable with can maximize student scores for scholarships, including the TOPS scholarship program. All Juniors are expected to test on Wednesday, April 16 at a reduced cost of $60. This fee will be drafted from your FACTS account, and you will be notified via email 10 days prior. If you have any questions, you may contact the counseling department.
Pre-ACT Testing for Freshmen & Sophomores

National Honor Society
National Honor Society is the sponsor of Scholar Week, which is a special week where we celebrate academics. This year, our celebration included dress-up days, a pep rally, and a campus beautification event. Scholar Court is another way NHS celebrates the academic achievement of students. All students with a weighted GPA of at least a 3.75 were placed on a ballot for each grade level, and the students with the most votes were chosen to represent their class on Court.
Congratulations to our 2025 Scholar Court:
Seniors: Madeline Edwards, Grant Evans, Connor Lyons, Maggie Nickel, Abby Strew, Ben Vanchiere, Abigail Williams, and the King and Queen from the Class of 2025 were Jonah Austin and Allison Donnelly.
Juniors: Reese Dufrene, Madelyn Elliott, Gabrielle McKinley, Bryson Tilton, Graham Wyninger, and the Prince and Princess from the Class of 2026 were Kyle Wilfer and Natalie Obluda.
Sophomores: Ike Irwin, Douglass Mayberry, Eleanor McNally, Jillian Richard, and the Duke and Duchess from the Class of 2027 were Richard Edwards and Abigail Alcock.
Freshmen: James Broussard, Edie Byrd, Ellie Gage, Cara Jones, Carl Morillo, and the Lord and Lady from the Class of 2028 were Ty Pham and Han Do.
In addition to the scholar court this year, the Scholar Week committee also chose chief scholars from the faculty and gave a few teacher shout-outs collected from students (all teachers will receive their anonymous shout-outs soon). The 2025 Chief Scholars were Darren Alcock, Warren Buller, and Jennie Lyons.
