Dear Parents / Carers,
This week has been strange as we settle into the 'new normal' whilst starting to make plans for the full return in September. The children in school and most of those still at home have been amazing in both their attitude and resilience and I would like to take this chance to say thank you to them but especially to all the parents who have coped so well over these months of lockdown. We spend at least 4 years training to be teachers but you have had it thrust upon you and we acknowledge the amount of work you have done with your children under difficult circumstances. September will certainly be a challenge for us in school but we are looking forward to welcoming all the children back and being able to teach properly again.
I would also like to thank every single member of the Kirk Fenton staff team who have all gone so far above and beyond since February. Throughout, school has remained open to key worker and vulnerable children and remained a happy and safe place. Staff have mainly worked from home to provide on-going work for their classes, and teaching assistants and admin staff have worked tirelessly to enable this to happen smoothly. All staff have completed a variety of training as well as continuing to work on developing the new curriculum that will be launched in September.
In regard to September, there will be letters coming out early next week so that you know which class and teacher your child will have next year and end of year reports will also be sent by email.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Karen Williams

Summer Reading Challenge - June to September 2020
The Summer Reading Challenge is in an online format this year running from June to September. Children can sign up to create a free online account with their own avatar and this year's theme is: The Silly Squad.
Website link: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
Website link to info for parents: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/parents-carers
The digital Challenge is free to access, featuring games, quizzes and digital and downloadable activities to incentivise and encourage children and their families to take part in treading related activities at home. Although library buildings are closed, libraries will also continue to deliver the Challenge through virtual services and e-lending platforms.
With school life disrupted and many children missing the company of their friends, this year’s fun-filled Summer Reading Challenge will be all the more vital as a way of helping parents and carers find fun, family-friendly activities, maintain literacy levels and create a safe space for children to connect with their peers.

News from St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton and the Tadcaster Benefice
We have been working hard over the past couple of weeks to get church ready for reopening for private prayer and for services.
Our plan (so far!!) is to continue church services on Zoom (see the pictures for details of these).
In addition to this, St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton will be open for private prayer on a Saturday from 9.00am – 12.00pm. Everyone is very welcome to come along. As you would expect, there are various procedures in place to keep people safe and, if church is busy, you may have to queue to get in. This will start from Saturday 4th July.
If you live elsewhere in the Tadcaster Benefice, or have connections to our other churches, their Saturday opening times are:
St. Mary’s Tadcaster – 9.00am – 12.00pm (Saturday 4th July ONLY)
St. Andrew’s Newton Kyme – 12.00pm – 1.00pm
St. John the Baptist Kirkby Wharfe and Ulleskelf – 1.00pm – 3.00pm
Throughout July, we will also be running one service in the Tadcaster Benefice on a Sunday morning at 8.00am at St. Mary’s Tadcaster only. Everyone is very welcome to come along to this but please be aware that it will be very different to the kind of services that we are all used to. The service will last about half an hour and places will be limited. For these services, a face covering will need to be worn.
Things are constantly changing and you can keep up to date at stmarystadcaster.co.uk or via the church Facebook page (St. Mary’s Church Church Fenton).
God bless,
Simon
