"The Victors Vision" Sept. 29, 2024
Online Edition!
From the Desk of Principal Lake
Victors,
We are entering the 6th week of school, and all students must attend classes every day on time. This is a crucial requirement to maintain your place at the Virtual School. At the end of the semester, we will assess each student based on academic achievement (passing all classes) and attendance (no more than 4.5 unexcused absences). If either of these is not in good standing, you may be asked to leave the Virtual School. We encourage all Victors to stay focused, pass their classes, and attend daily. Progress reports will be available this Friday in PowerSchool.
On Monday, September 30, 2024, there will be no school due to district-wide professional development.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, we will start our new Character Trait: Respect! We would like to see all of our Victors showing respect this month and throughout the school year.
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, it is Count Day! We will give out prizes to students in attendance every hour. Count Day is crucial in the Michigan school system because it directly impacts the amount of funding a school district receives from the state. The number of students enrolled and present on Count Day determines the per-pupil funding allocated to each district. This funding supports a wide range of services, including teacher salaries, educational programs, and resources necessary for student success. In Michigan, there are typically two Count Days: one in October (Fall) and another in February (Winter). The Fall Count Day is more significant, as it represents 90% of the funding calculation, while the Winter Count Day contributes 10%. Therefore, ensuring high attendance on these days is vital for schools to secure the financial resources they need to operate effectively throughout the year.
And lastly, progress reports will be viewable in PowerSchool on Friday, October 4, 2024.
Let’s make this week great! Don't hesitate to contact Dr. Montgomery or me with any questions or concerns.
Go Victors!

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
Why do we celebrate Hispanic (Latinx) Heritage Month?
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated to honor and bring national attention to the many accomplishments made by people of Hispanic and Latin descent. The theme for 2024 is appropriately named, "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together."
National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latin Americans. We celebrate the heritage that is rooted in all Latin American countries from September 15th - October 15th, and throughout the year.
For generations, Hispanic and Latin Americans have played a crucial role in the success of our country. Whether it has been education, science, technology, the arts or medicine, we have truly been enriched by their presence and contributions.
Detroit Public Schools Community District is proud to recognize and celebrate our students, staff, and community members who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. Let's learn about the history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latin Americans of the past and present.
There are so many interesting and exciting ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Please share how you plan to celebrate this month!
