Friendly Friday Update

I hope you are able to stop by Friendly Hills on Tuesday evening, May 7th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and browse through our incredible art show. There are many different types of art displayed throughout the building and our students have done a wonderful job over the course of the school year creating things that are amazing! This would be a great stop for you and/or your family either before or after the Spring band concerts. All grades are represented in the art show and the creativity is awesome!

Please remember to drive slowly in the parking lot and on school grounds. Pay attention to students that can appear out of nowhere at any time!

• May 16 - Grades 5 & 6 Choir Concert, 6 p.m.
• May 27 - Memorial Day, No School

Congratulations to all our students that were recipients of Honor Roll awards for their academic achievements in Quarter Three!

8th grade students are attending ValleyFair on Wednesday, June 5th. Permission forms were distributed at school Wednesday, May 1st. Forms are due Wednesday, May 15th. Contact aaron.ashley@isd197.org for more information.

Save the date for Battle of the Books! Families are invited to attend our final Battle of the Books competition on May 10th at 1:30 p.m. until about 3:00 in the Multi-Purpose Gym. Please plan to check in at the front office.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and School District 197 is sponsoring Wellness Week next week, May 6-10.

• Monday, May 6 - Mindful Monday: try a mindfulness practice such as deep breathing, cultivating positivity, and showing kindness.
• Tuesday, May 7 - Take a Break Tuesday: take some time to connect with a friend, or enjoy a hobby.
• Wednesday, May 8 - Walk Wednesday: enjoy the health benefits of nature by moving your body and spending time connecting with friends & neighbors outside.
• Thursday, May 9 - Talk Thursday: talk with a friend, colleague, or supportive person about something that's been on your mind lately or your weekend plans!
• Friday, May 10 - Fresh Food Friday: try to increase your intake of fresh food including fruits and vegetables.

Counselors and Cultural Liaisons are planning projects with our students in honor of Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Please consider donating new (or gently used) origami paper, kits, and/or other supplies. Thank you!

The PTA's Teacher Appreciation Committee is requesting gift card donations from FHMS families as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10. We are looking for a total of 50 gift cards in denominations ranging from $10-$20 (essentially covering the cost of a purchase).

Possible locations:

• Local coffee shops
• Local fast food establishments
• Target, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart
• Gas stations
• Movie theaters, etc.

Families can drop off gift cards in the office or send a financial donation via PayPal (friendlyhillspta@gmail.com) or Venmo (@FriendlyHillsPTA) with "teacher appreciation" in the description. Donation deadline is Friday, May 3. Thanks for your generosity!
