Principal's Message
Now it feels like summer! What a roller coaster of weather, and yet still no rain. Our students and staff are enjoying the sunshine outside whenever we can and looking forward to finalizing yet another school year, but we have a lot of fun activities planned for June before we can dream about summer holidays.
Students are particularly busy in June. The Phys. Ed. 30 students are helping at the TES for their Fun Day. Tornado Track and Field athletes are competing in the SHSAA provincial meet on June 6th and 7th in Moose Jaw. We are hosting a spring concert on June 11 for students to showcase the progress of their musical skills. In addition, the Special O athletes will be competing in a bowling tournament here in town with competitors from Melfort and Nipawin. We are also welcoming the current grade fives over to TMSS for an afternoon tour on June 12th. We always look forward to seeing these enthusiastic students and showing off all we have to offer. All students will be attending our annual Athletic and Club awards program on June 13th (more details to follow). The grade 6s are on a field trip to Greenwater Provincial Park on June 18th. The Outdoor Ed class has a canoe trip planned for June 19th and 20th to northern Saskatchewan. Final exams for high school students begin on June 23rd through to the 28th. And of course, our Class of 2025 will be graduating on June 27th. Phew! What a busy month.
In the meantime, teachers have a lot of data to collect from students to be sure that we have an accurate view of your child’s progress. School attendance is still crucial. Please ensure that your child continues to be present at school, completing the work that teachers are assigning. Middle years students with incomplete courses will not be eligible for our academic awards in the fall and high school students (grade 10-12) will not receive credit from the Ministry of Education unless all work is submitted and grades are 50% or higher. Completing exams remotely is not an option for TMSS students. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teachers so we understand how best to support your child this last month of school.
Thank you, TMSS families, for all your support,
Carmen Messer
This month's Grade 6 GRIT award goes to Savannah Kuras. Savannah has embraced student-life at TMSS. She has become involved with such clubs as SRC and Drama, performing in 2 plays this year. She brought a huge presence to the stage. Savannah is capable, willing to try, willing to improve and grow, and supports other students around her. Savannah also has many hobbies including crafting/woodwork, camping, and spending time with family. Savannah, keep being YOU.
I am thrilled to announce that this month's Grade 7 GRIT award winner is Eunice Berina. Eunice consistently puts forth her best effort in everything she does and loves to showcase her singing skills in PE. Her ability to work well with others, maintain a positive attitude, and earn the respect of her peers makes her an absolute pleasure to have in class every day. Eunice also excels in all of her classes; she is a girl who brings out the best in others and is a role model in our school. Please join me in congratulating Eunice on this well-deserved recognition!
The Grade 8 GRIT winner this month is Sienna Martens. Sienna is willing to learn each day and has a positive attitude towards her learning. She is respectful kind to all her classmates and staff members. Sienna is not afraid to seek clarification when she doesn't understand something, showing her commitment to improving and her willingness to grow. Her work ethic and positive outlook make her a role model for others. Congratulations, Sienna!
GRIT is defined as a combination of perseverance and passion for long-term goals. It's a personality trait characterized by the ability to stay committed to a course of action, even in the face of obstacles, and to maintain effort and passion for that goal. The Grade 9 GRIT recipient for this month has shown these characteristics. She has grown in her work ethic over the year, is able to tune out distractions in class in order to complete her work to the best of her ability, catches up when missing, and is willing to share her knowledge with others. She comes to class with a positive attitude, and is able to motivate others to do their best in their work as well. Congratulations Laken LaClare.
The Grade 10 GRIT award this month goes to Kylie Cressman. Kylie works so hard to understand topics in her academics. She’s honest and always striving to do her best. She balances her studies and athletics very well and has great time management skills. Congratulations Kylie… your hard work has not gone unnoticed!
The Grade 11 GRIT shout-out goes to Jenna Brown. Jenna consistently does what's right, even when no one is watching. Her honesty and strong moral compass makes them a trusted peer and a respected member of our student body. Jenna is always looking to improve and submit the very best quality of work that she is capable of. Keep working hard in everything you do. Congrats, Jenna!
This month's Grade 12 GRIT winner is Graci Deforest. Graci has been working very hard this semester to maintain both a high average and great attendance. She is a wonderful addition to any class, always getting her work done, asking questions to further her understanding, and helping peers when they need a hand. Though she might take a minute to come out of her shell, TMSS is lucky to have a student with such a kind heart! Congratulations and keep it up Graci!
Robot Rumble
Students had the opportunity to watch the Robot Rumble on May 8th at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. We learned a lot, stealthily made a plan for next year's competition, and had a lot of fun. We are already excited to start building for next year!

Tornados Represent at 2025 Challenge Cup
TMSS would like to send a shout-out to graduating Tornados Football players Zenek Chapman and Aiden Zslnka. These two represented Team Saskatchewan at the 2025 Challenge cup over the May Long weekend. They were great representatives of our school and the town of Tisdale. Team Saskatchewan was able to come out on top with a 38-0 win over Team Manitoba. Chapman was also named the Defensive MVP of the game. Congratulations Zenek and Aiden!
School in the Bush
On Wednesday May 7 our grade 7 students had the opportunity to attend "School in the Bush" at Kinistin Saulteaux Nation. Several stations were set up to give the the kids a variety of experiences, from bannock making and beading to plucking and preparing ducks! The students had a fantastic time.
TMSS would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Kinistin Education Center and everyone involved in providing this rich cultural experience for our students!
TMSS Lions Band Takes Edmonton by Storm
From May 6–8, the Grade 10–12 TMSS Lions Band embarked on an unforgettable musical adventure to Edmonton. Their journey began with a heartwarming hometown send-off as they performed a lively concert at TES, entertaining the entire student body with a mix of Marvel and Disney themes, pop hits, and spooky selections.
On May 7, the band visited the University of Alberta, where they met with Dr. Schroeder, head of the music education department. Students were inspired as they explored how music and ensemble playing go far beyond just notes and rhythms—it’s about connection, expression, and lifelong learning.
Later that day, the Lions brought their high-energy performance to Keheewin School, where elementary students were delighted by the familiar, fun, and spooky sounds of the Senior Band. The excitement continued at West Edmonton Mall, where students explored before enjoying an evening at Jubilations Dinner Theatre. The show, The Big Bang Theory, had TMSS students laughing and even participating on stage as beloved characters like Sheldon and Leonard mingled with the audience.
The trip wrapped up on May 8 with a visit to the Winspear Centre to watch the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in rehearsal. Students were captivated by the precision and artistry involved in refining pieces more than 275 bars long. A highlight was a guest classical guitarist who amazed the students by performing a 40-minute piece entirely from memory.
The TMSS Lions Band not only showcased their musical talents but also deepened their appreciation for the arts in this enriching and inspiring tour.
Grade 8 TMSS Lions Band Shines at Moose Jaw Festival
On May 15th, the Grade 8 TMSS Lions Band travelled to Moose Jaw to participate in the Moose Jaw Band and Choral Festival. Their performance impressed adjudicators, who praised the students for their use of dynamics, musicality, professionalism, and the pride they showed in being part of the band.
Following their performance and clinic, students explored Moose Jaw’s historic underground with tours of the Chicago Connection and Passage to Fortune tunnels. After a quick stop at McDonalds, they headed to Regina, where they checked into the hotel for an evening filled with swimming, relaxation, and fun.
The next morning, the group visited the Saskatchewan Science Centre, where they experimented with laser mazes, explored exhibits, and even tried out the NASA zero-gravity GyroGym. They capped off the visit with a thrilling 3D IMAX screening of T-Rex.
Throughout the trip, the students were excellent ambassadors for TMSS—demonstrating teamwork, enthusiasm, and school spirit while making unforgettable memories.
MMIWG
May 5th was National Day for Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls. TMSS was spreading awareness in a variety of ways, one of which is this display in our student lounge. Students will take part in a variety of classroom activities today, learning about the ongoing crisis of Indigenous women and girls going missing and murdered at a disproportionately higher rate than other populations in Canada and the United States.
Here are some powerful videos to watch if you are interested in educating yourself about this important issue.

Spring Dance
On Thursday, May 1 our SRC held the annual TMSS Spring dance for all students grades 6-12. Everyone had a fantastic time! With music by Steve Leibel and refreshments provided, the kids danced their hearts out and had fun. Thanks to our SRC and our staff chaperones for making this event happen year after year.

Cade Sprackman Safety Day
Tuesday, May 27 was Cade Sprackman Safety Day at TMSS.
Cade Sprackman grew up in Hudson Bay, SK, with his sister, two brothers, and loving parents. On January 27th, 2015, after recently graduating high school and moving to Saskatoon for a job, Cade was involved in a preventable workplace incident that took his life. He was only 18 years old and three weeks into his new job. Facilitated by The Saskatchewan Safety Council and our staff at TMSS, this event guides students through a station-based obstacle course with activities focused on the early development of hazard awareness and injury prevention skills.
This fantastic opportunity has the students interested and engaged. We appreciate the Saskatchewan Safety Council for this invaluable opportunity! Big thanks to our admin team and Mrs. Kristin Lee for organizing this important event, and to Mr. Thiessen for cooking 1000 hot dogs for lunch!
TMSS would also like to acknowledge Cade's parents, Jerry & Michelle Sprackman, who attended and spoke at the event. We would also like to thank the volunteers, staff and the following presenters:
