"The Victors Vision" Oct. 6, 2024
Online Edition!
From the Desk of Principal Lake
Victors,
We are now in the 7th week of school, and all students and parents should have been able to access their progress reports this past Friday. Dr. Montgomery and I will be reviewing both grades and attendance, and we will reach out to families whose students are at risk of not meeting the academic and attendance standards of the Virtual School. Please remember to attend school every day and always put forth your best effort!
On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, DPSCD will hold its monthly Board Meeting, and we encourage you to tune in as the Virtual School will be honored for being in the Top 5% for Lowest Chronic Absenteeism in 2023-2024.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, we will host our High School Parent/Teacher Conferences from 1pm-5pm. High School students will have a half-day of school. Please see the abbreviate schedule below. Please plan to meet with your child's high school teachers. Microsoft Bookings will be shared prior to Wednesday to schedule your meetings. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress and achievements. Here is the Microsoft Bookings Link for High School Parent/Teacher Conferences: https://outlook.office365.com/book/DPSCDVirtualSchool@Detroitk12.onmicrosoft.com/
Lastly, please note our upcoming events: K-8 Parent/Teacher Conferences, Oktoberfest, and DVS Picture Day!

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
Why do we celebrate Hispanic (Latinx) Heritage Month?
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated to honor and bring national attention to the many accomplishments made by people of Hispanic and Latin descent. The theme for 2024 is appropriately named, "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together."
National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latin Americans. We celebrate the heritage that is rooted in all Latin American countries from September 15th - October 15th, and throughout the year.
For generations, Hispanic and Latin Americans have played a crucial role in the success of our country. Whether it has been education, science, technology, the arts or medicine, we have truly been enriched by their presence and contributions.
Detroit Public Schools Community District is proud to recognize and celebrate our students, staff, and community members who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. Let's learn about the history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latin Americans of the past and present.
There are so many interesting and exciting ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Please share how you plan to celebrate this month!
