CTE Newsletter
August 22, 2022
CTE prepares students for post-secondary training, successful careers, and enriched lives, by ensuring that all students acquire the essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions in each CTE course.
Through competency-based instruction, hands-on experiences, and work-based learning opportunities, Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides students with the structured training and the necessary tools to be successful in a career after high school and/or further their postsecondary education, whether at a technical school, or a two- or four-year college. Each student is encouraged to explore various areas of study and to develop the competencies that are necessary to enter today’s competitive job market with confidence. To learn more about CTE and who it is for, please watch the following video.
Concurrent Enrollment
Concurrent enrollment provides course options to prepared high school students that earn high school and college credit. Concurrent enrollment allows students to complete a high school diploma while concurrently earning credits for first- or second-year coursework at a USHE institution, which can accelerate college completion and reduce college costs.

I did not think I would ever have to work so hard in school to get good grades. I've never felt so inspired to study. I never thought I would be saying that I want to study.

Taking concurrent enrollment classes has helped me to understand I need to priorities my time and has helped me a lot in my communicating skills.

I personally like CE more than AP where the entirety of whether or not you get your credits rely on a single test at the end of the year. It's also given me more insight into what college classes will look like.

Concurrent Enrollment Admission/ Registration Information
Admissions/ Registration Deadline for WXHS: Friday, SEPTEMBER 2
When it comes to college credit, do not be misadvised.
Woods Cross High School now has a Weber State University CE Advisor who will be on WXHS campus on Tuesdays. Her name is Ashley Steward and she is excited to help your CE students and you with any questions you might have about Concurrent Enrollment at WSU.
She can help students learn about the benefits of taking CE courses in high school, be strategic in what Concurrent Enrollment classes to take and advise those interested in a WSU Certificate of Completion or Associate Degree. While here on campus, she can meet one-on-one with students or even do class presentations. If a student would like to make an appointment with her, see the attached flyer for a QR code or have them email ceadvising@weber.edu.
If you haven't already, we would encourage you to use the new videos on the Concurrent Enrollment Advising website. One is a guide to success with CE, the other goes over General Ed requirements. They might answer a lot of questions students might have. And the website has a lot of great information as well.
Automation and Robotics
Automation and Robotics is part of Davis Tech’s Automation and Robotics Program. This course is competency-based, and you can work at your own pace. All work completed through this program counts toward a certificate of completion from the college.
Once this course is complete, you have the option of attending Davis Technical College as a high school student in order to complete the program. High school students pay no tuition while they are in high school and up to a year after graduation. A certificate of program completion from Davis Tech transfers to Weber State University as 25 credits toward an AAS degree in Controls Technology. It also transfers to Weber State University, Utah State University and Ensign College as up to 30 hours of an AAS in General Technology.
As this is a college class,
Failure to enroll will delay access to online course curriculum through Canvas. Please follow these steps to complete your enrollment.
