Weekly Family Newsletter
Burns Park Elementary
From the Principals
Sunday, April 7th 2024
Hello Burns Park Families,
This is a longer newsletter today, so be sure to keep scrolling!
We are pleased to share that every AAPS student and staff will receive a pair of certified eclipse glasses to use tomorrow, April 8, 2024 for the exciting solar eclipse. Many of our classrooms have planned viewing events and some are planning a practice session with the glasses. We have great curriculum support from the district’s instructional team that is being incorporated into the classrooms. We will be very careful about viewing outside during the peak fullest part of the eclipse.
From Safe Routes to School: BPE's SRTS Committee would like your help to learn a bit more about how students get to school so we can advocate for better safety! We appreciate your help and support! Please take our survey here. Thank you!
This Wednesday, April 10th is an Early Release Day. School will dismiss at 1PM. Please be sure that your student knows their after school plans.
Lastly, mark your calendars! April 13th is a great day to check out the PTO Thrift shop as a portion of all sales goes to Burns Park Elementary!
See ya tomorrow!
Peace & Love,
Principals Bullock & Miller

Updates from Kids Club
Dear CDC Kids Club families and prospective families,
CDC will begin accepting Kids Club-Lawton and Burns Park Elementary-applications for the 2024-2025 school year starting Monday, April 8, for both current and new families.
Starting April 8, you can apply here. If you would like to be notified about enrollment by May 6, your application must be completed by April 26, 2024.
Enrollment is limited and based on multiple factors. Registrations are not accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Priority is given to current CDC Kids Club families, families who need tuition assistance as available, single-caretaker families, and families who self-identify as being from a marginalized community. Returning families will only have priority until April 26, 2024. In the event that the number of remaining applications exceeds the number of remaining spaces, a lottery will be conducted.*
Families interested in scholarships should indicate this on their initial enrollment application. If interested in scholarship, families MUST complete a separate application for financial assistance via EZ Child Track. This application is available now and will remain open. We will contact you about completing the application for financial assistance and providing relevant paperwork, as needed. All paperwork will be due by April 26, 2024 in order to be considered for financial assistance.
All families will be notified regarding their status (i.e., enrolled or on the waitlist) and scholarship award as applicable by May 6, 2024. If spaces are still available after May 6, enrollment will remain open and new families will be welcome to apply.
In sum, here is the timeline of the process:
4/8/2024: Enrollment opens.
4/26/2024: Deadline for families to submit applications if they would like to be notified about enrollment by May 6. If applicable, scholarship applications and paperwork are also due at this time (must be complete with all documents).
*5/3/2024: Lottery, if needed. In previous years, no lottery has been needed at Lawton Kid Club. PM Kids Club at Burns Park has required a lottery. This is also the deadline for current families to apply before losing priority.
5/6/2024: Families will receive notice of enrollment and award determinations.
The following information will be collected on the application:
Child’s name
Child’s date of birth
Ideal schedule (e.g., Monday-Friday, mornings only, etc.)
Kids Club location
Race
Ethnicity
Household income
Number of caretakers in the household
The information requested is optional and will not be used for exclusion in any programs. We ask this information for several reasons:
We want to prioritize families who are eligible to receive scholarships when CDC has funds available.
The diversity of our programs is important to us as we prepare children to be citizens in a multiracial society.
Collecting data on the demographics of our programs is helpful in determining how our programs and policies are working to address racial inequities in early childhood education.
When applying for grants as a nonprofit organization, the funders often request information about the demographics of our programs.
A few things to note:
When enrolling, make sure you enroll for "Kids Club 2024/2025" because this year is still active. You will also have to indicate your school location.
