Trojan Territory
Week of January 13
Hello Trojan Families and Students,
Welcome back from the holiday break. I hope many of you had a restful and relaxing time with family and friends. As we enter the second semester we are looking forward to hitting the ground running. Continue to encourage your student to attend each and every class on time. If you are not receiving messages from the school when your student is absent, please reach out to the main office to make sure your contact information is correct. This week we will begin ACCESS Testing for our students identified as multilingual learners who have a NEP and LEP designation; these students should have already been notified about the testing window.
A couple of reminders, we will have no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Our spring Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for February 12th from 4:30-6:30. These conferences are virtual and/or by phone. Please watch for more information soon!
Thank you again for your continued support of THS. Have a great week!
Charles Arellano
Principal
Does your student have a job? Do they want to earn high school credits for work (next semester)?
They can get to graduation faster if they have passed or are currently enrolled in a THS CTE course: business, computer science, or family & consumer sciences (culinary), they are eligible to earn high school credit for working!
Please tell your student to talk to Ms. Van Loenen in room 313 or Ms. Mabbutt in room 208 before March 24th. The deadline for registration is March 26, 2024.
Students can earn .5 credits for 125+ hours of verified work or 1 full credit for 250+ hours of verified work.
ACCESS Testing - January 13-February 13, 2025
Do you have a student who is enrolled in an English Language Development class or on an ELD waiver? If so, this information is for you. There is an important assessment coming up in January. Students will be taking the required English Language Proficiency test called ACCESS. This test provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their English language skills. The test has four parts: listening, reading, speaking and writing. This is also an opportunity for students to test out of English Language Development (ELD) class. So it’s important that they do their best and take the test seriously.
Beginning January 14 we will begin testing. We will complete most of the test, during the week, of January 13 and any makeups by February 13. Please help your student to be at school, on time, with their charged chromebook and charger the week of January 13 through the February 13. If they are present during testing time and arrive on time prepared, they have a better chance of showing significant progress.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing the results of their learning.

Transportation
If you are wondering if you are eligible for district transportation, please call directly: 720-972-4300
Chromebooks
If you went to an Adams 12 school last year, you should have your district-issued chromebook and charger. Those were NOT collected at the end of the school year. If you are a new student, stop by the library and we will check out a device and charger for you.
All students should now have a Chromebook.
If your Chromebook is not working or damaged please bring it (and the charger) to school and visit the library. Ms. Smith and Ms. Ewell in the library will help you out. If your Chromebook is lost or stolen, stop by the library and we'll talk about next steps and check out another device for you.
All students are charged a Chromebook Insurance fee of $20, $10 for reduced lunches and $0 for free lunches. Damaged Chromebooks have a $5.00 fine for the first damage, $50.00 fine for the second damage and for each additional damage the charge is $75.00. To replace a lost Chromebook the cost is $150. If your Chromebook is stolen, you MUST fill out a police report and submit that to the District to not be charged. Chromebook chargers are $35 to replace through the District. If you need a new charger and want to pay less, you can use THIS LINK. You do not have to use this link or buy through Amazon. The charger must be a 45-watt USB-C Type charger.

Academic Support (Wednesday Mornings)
Academic Support is an opportunity for students to meet with teachers in order to make up work and receive additional assistance. All teachers are available to meet with students during Academic Support. Teachers will share meeting locations with students during the first week of class. Academic Support takes place on Wednesdays from 7:40 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Academic Support will begin on Wednesday, August 16th.
FREE/Reduce Lunch Program
Don't forget! You have to fill out an application every year.
Freshman will have 4th and 6th hour lunch. Upperclassmen will have 5th hour lunch. After a recent Colorado law was enacted, ALL students can receive free lunch. Still, it is IMPORTANT to submit an application for free or reduced benefits.
Help with School Fees: Apply for Free and Reduced Benefits
Free and reduced benefits help families and THS! Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced benefits for this school year. By applying for free and reduced benefits, families receive assistance and it helps our school too. Here are a few ways the benefits can help:
- THS can receive additional funding to enhance the educational experience for all students. ($1,280 per approved student)
- School fees can be waived or reduced. These include athletic fees, course fees and activity and field trip fees tied to curriculum.
- Students can receive assistance with post-graduation planning, scholarships, state and national testing (including SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate), and post-secondary enrollment.
- Families can qualify for additional resources, such as medical, food and cash assistance.
- Families can receive support with community services, such as internet, gym memberships, passes to museums and cultural events.
Apply before October here!
