Michigan Green Schools
All four WBSD elementary schools have recently been recognized as "Green Schools" by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Environmental Education program. The Michigan Green Schools program aims to support and acknowledge the efforts of PreK-12 schools in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability, including initiatives that protect the state's air, land, water and ecosystems.
For a school to attain Green School certification, a school building must demonstrate the completion of at least ten approved environmental activities.

Road Commission for Oakland County in partnership with West Bloomfield Township and Orchard Lake Village, will begin resurfacing Orchard Lake Road from Will-O-Way Lane to West Long Lake Road. The road will remain open during the project — expect delays and drive carefully!
Volunteer for Mileage Club
In order for the Mileage Club operate we need parent volunteers to take the wagon out to the field, help students get their running tags, use the EZscan app to scan student QR codes and then bring the wagon back inside. It is an easy end enjoyable opportunity to work with our Lakers! We will not run if the fields are too muddy or if it is drizzling.
Days of the Week: Flexible, we try to have Mileage Club two-three days a week. Pick a day!
Time: Sheiko - 10:45 a.m. -1:15 p.m., Doherty, Gretchko and Scotch - 11:45-2:15 p.m.
There are two roles for which you can volunteer:
- Mileage Club Captain - coordinate building volunteers, explain to volunteers how to use the app to track student progress. Please note we already have a captain for Gretchko!
- Volunteer - setting up the course with cones, scanning students' QR code as they run/walk laps, bringing the wagon and cones back inside afterward. Volunteers must complete an iChat form.
Please help us thank our generous Mileage Club sponsors Community Financial Credit Union (CFCU) and Outstanding Orthodontics!

In Case You Missed It
WBSD's Medical Mentorship program is in its 24th year. This week students had an opportunity to thank the Henry Ford Hospital West Bloomfield medical professionals they shadowed. There were 10 field trip opportunities in addition to HIPAA and bloodborne pathogen training.
A WBSD alum class of 1991, Regional Chief Medical Officer Manu Malhotra addressed the students and thanked them for the energy they bring to the hospital. Dr. Wilfred Allen described how important the program is in providing students an opportunity to explore various medical fields and professions, and shared WB has one of the best programs he's ever seen.
Thank you Liza Zanotti-Eurich for connecting our students to these real world experiences!
