A Message from Dr. Gough
Dear WPS Community,
As we near the end of 2024, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your continued partnership in our shared commitment to creating a challenging learning environment while providing valuable opportunities for our students. In this season of giving, I would also like to thank our generous families, students, and staff who have contributed donations and gifts to support families within the Walpole Public Schools community. Your kindness and support make a lasting impact. As we look ahead to the holiday season, I wish you all a joyful and peaceful winter break. Please remember that Friday, December 13th is an early release day. Additionally, schools will be closed from December 23, 2024, to January 1, 2025. We look forward to welcoming back our students and staff on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Wishing you a happy and safe holiday season.
Bridget A. Gough, Ed.D.

Kindergarten Registration 2025-2026
WPS 2025-2026 Kindergarten Pre-registration will be open from January 2 through January 31, 2025. To pre-register a kindergarten age-qualified* child, a parent or legal guardian must complete the online registration form (scroll down to kindergarten pre-registration).
If you are unable to drop off documents at your neighborhood school during the day, the Superintendents’ Office (135 School Street, Room 204) is open on Monday and Wednesday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Tuesday 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM and Friday 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
*Kindergarten age-qualified children are those who turn five (5) years old before September 1 of the school year for which they are pre-registering.
If your child is currently enrolled or receiving special education services through Daniel Feeney Preschool Center, you do not need to submit the online registration form, birth certificate, or proof of residency. However, you will need to provide the elementary school with a copy of your child’s latest physical.

Sealing History: Walpole's 300th Anniversary Time Capsule Event
This week, the Walpole 300th Committee concluded the year-long 300th Anniversary Celebration with a special event at the Walpole Middle School. A time capsule containing a variety of artifacts was placed within the wall of the new school, marking a lasting tribute to this milestone. Additionally, the contents of the Town Hall time capsule from 1974 were on display, offering a glimpse into the town's history.
8th Graders Take the Senate Floor: A Hands-On Civics Experience
This month, as part of their Civics curriculum, our 8th-grade students embarked on an engaging, hands-on learning experience at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute. Acting as U.S. Senators, students crafted amendments and provisions for a bill on climate change. Representing their assigned senator’s state and political party, they carefully considered the needs and priorities of their constituents. After working in subcommittees and debating on the Senate floor, the final bill was passed with 52 "aye" votes to 33 "nay." This unique experience not only deepened students' understanding of the legislative process but also helped them develop essential critical thinking and collaboration skills.

Health Office Reminders
When we return in January 2025, please remember if your child is ill with a fever (greater than 100), they need to remain at home for 24 hours without the use of an antipyretic (Tylenol, Motrin, fever-reducing medication). If your child has a viral stomach illness with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, please keep them home for an additional 24 hours after symptoms have subsided. If your child has been diagnosed with an infection requiring antibiotic treatment such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, or impetigo, they must be treated with the antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
Please refer to the WPS Health Services website for more information. This site also contains links to forms (i.e. medication administration, over-the-counter medication, consent forms), medication policies, and information regarding illnesses, concussions, and injuries.
As always, please feel free to contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns regarding your child.
Snow Days
The Superintendent of Schools is ultimately responsible for the final decision to cancel school based on various weather-related factors and information received from the Department of Public Works. In the event of school cancellation or delayed opening, a recorded phone message will be sent to each family's phone contact, broadcasted through Channel 4, 5, 7, and Fox 25, Twitter, posted on the Walpole Public Schools app and district website, and an email will be sent to all families. As a reminder, DESE does not allow any district-wide remote learning days to replace a snow day, and therefore, any snow days will be made up in June.
