Letters About Literature
Letters About Literature is a reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12. Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write to the author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Letters are judged on state and national levels. Please contact Kate Lentz, at the RI Center for the Book for more information.
The 2015-2016 Letters About Literature contest is made possible by a grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, with additional support from gifts to the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

ALSC Seeks Media Mentors
Must be submitted by Wednesday, November 25
A Media Mentor is:
- a person who supports children, teens, and their families in their media decisions and practice around media use, including screen media.
- a person who has access to and shares recommendations for and research on children and teen’s media use.
We are looking for examples of Media Mentorship in libraries to share in a forthcoming book we are writing with ALSC. The book will expand on the ideas presented in the ALSC White Paper Media Mentorship in Libraries Serving Youth.
If you use digital media in programs for kids and/or teens (ages 0-14), talk to families about digital media research, or help kids and teens find online content, for example, please share your experiences as a Media Mentor with us using this form. If at all possible, please submit by Wednesday, November 25. If need be, we will follow up with you by email or phone.
Any questions can be directed to Claudia Haines or Cen Campbell.
