Greetings Evergreen Families,

Yes, the school doors are officially opening this week. Please welcome, Ms. Morgan, Safety Assistant, Ms. Nelson and Ms. Wimmer front office secretaries and Ms. Sobocinski, Administrative Intern to our school family.

The first change you will see is at the front of the school building with beautiful yellow flowers and a refreshed Chessie along with the Kindergarten playground equipment that received a needed power wash. The back fence line along the path was cleared of all overflowing grass. All bathrooms received positive quotes on doors and mirrors. The upstairs patio was refreshed with new flower pots. Thank you to the PTO, parent volunteers and Girl Scout Troop 10093 for stopping by August 15th and 16th to complete the beautification projects. The second change you will see is the remodel of the front office area. We now have the new safety vestibule fully installed, which leads to the new sign-in/sign-out procedures. There is no longer direct access to enter the main office for dropping off or picking up. You will enter the front entry and will be assisted through a set-up similar to a bank window. You will still be required to show your driver's license when picking up students as well as signing them out. Friendly reminder that our tardy time is 9:05. Third, for our students breakfast is no longer eaten in the classroom. It will be served and enjoyed in the cafeteria.

You may recall at the end of the school year, a SMCPS survey went out to staff, students, and parents. I am sharing THIS presentation for your review about the new cell phone policies in a school setting, which was presented at the recent BOE meeting. Additionally, here is a message from Dr. Smith: VIDEO. The new policy applies to mobile phones (smartphones and traditional cellphones), tablets, wireless audio devices (wireless earbuds, headsets, and speakers) and wearable technology (smartwatches and fitness trackers). It is important to understand that if you need to contact your child, please refrain from texting him/her. Please call the school and we will be glad to pass on a message or get him/her for you to speak on the phone.
